Collages - the beginning of an exotic series

I'm developing a furious love for collages these days
the slow paper cutting calms me down
and makes me dream of faraway exotic places
Yoli read my mind when she asked me
if by any chance I was going to make some
with an Asian theme. Indeed it is my next step

I once had my Japanese period when I was working
as a translator in Paris. I loved the old movies
of Mizoguchi, Ozu, Kurosawa and took classes
of Japanese for a year which was quite challenging
but definitely lots of fun

the kanjis above mean "the banquet under the flowers"
it is the name of a traditional Japanese pastry called wagashi
these poetical names are inspired from the Tale of Genji
a major classic work of Japanese literature
written in the XIth century

My next step is the desert and Africa
but I'd love to make at least 2 more oriental ones

as you might have noticed I don't blog too much
about Granada these days
the heat is just TOO much !

edit to post :

please forgive me if I sound monomaniac
but can I share one of my favorite Japanese movies?
An Actor's Revenge (1963) by Kon Ichikawa
a fascinating story and a feast for the eyes

a book ? The Golden Pavilion by Yukio Mishima
or as Jojo mentioned, Silk by Alessandro Baricco

Your collages are great, Lala. I am fond of Japanese culture, too. I spend a summer there once.

Looking forward to your African ones.

The Japanese paper cuttings are so beautiful. We had a Japanese exchange student live with us for a year and while he was with us he showed us how to treasure every small detail. your work reflects this. It is fun to be able to see the many examples of your talents in stages as we move from continent to continent. In the heat you are wise to relax and work on your art form. It is in the mid to upper 90s here and it gets so hard to go outside.

I haven't seen any Japanese movies, but I do admire Japanese design and motifs. I like your delicate collages. Years ago I did decoupage and I found the slow cutting of paper, like you have, to be very calming and enjoyable.

I like the little feet! Your collages are so attractive...

Oh Lala! Your collages just keep getting better and better! You are so inspired!

I will note those films. I have not seen any of them and I'm sure they are wonderful.

I can only imagine what your next collages will be!

Your collages are simply amazing. They evoke Matisse, but are at the same time, utterly original. You have a gift, my friend.
