True blue and truly impractical...

People coming to the flat for the first time are usually polite and say : "oh how lovely...how funny..did you do this wallpaper yourself?"

The truth is I'm quite proud of my homemade wallpaper. The kanji represent names of wagashi (Japanese cakes) and this all that's left of my 1-year Japanese apprenticeship.

Then the same people who said "how lovely , how funny" discover that my love of decorating ignores the elementary rules of practicality.

the lovely wallpaper has a life on its own and flies away when the windows are opened (in summer..of course, it stays still in winter). This is the room where I work and is also the living-room, dining-room and siesta room. The white cushions are now yellow.

I have a need to see books everywhere, on the bed, in the toilet, in the kitchen so I was quite happy when I found a way of also hanging some on the wall.

Now...how do you read these ? Monchéri tried and just claimed it was ridiculous and fastidious. Still I hanged to the idea and made things more complicated for the potential reader of these cute art books about Delacroix and Dufy by adding a couple of Morrocan poufs.

I like colours and a tiny tiny bit of clutter

Not very practical either are the two sofas (Morroccan sidali) because they don't have the right cushions so it's better to lie down on them than to be seated.

Imagine you come for tea and I tell you : "please lie down, you'll be much more comfortable!"

That would be funny.

About decorating and being funny, I once read this anecdote about Elsa Schiaparelli inviting for dinner her then rival Coco Chanel. Schiaparelli suddenly felt the urge to paint her chairs in black and of course the chairs were not dry when Chanel sat down for dinner.

This is exactly the kind of thing I'm capable of doing ...

Have a great week end !

J'adore, j'adore, j'adore..!!!!!
Sounds like me - only I had to calm down with the arrival of kids and a more conventional lifestyle when I joined the corporate world -luckily I'm independant now and can do what I want; which is exactly what I do..!
Interior déco is ALL about the personal touch - nothing worse than some standard déco. that everybody adopts because it's "à la mode"..!
Thanks for sharing..:)

Adorable and so creative. And I would come and lie down for tea anytime. I much prefer lounging to sitting.

And I think your wallpaper is brilliant.

If you asked me to lie down on wet, black paint I might have a problem...on one of those beautiful comfy couches, it'd be a pleasure.

You are incredibly talented and creative. I love those books on the wall!

It's wonderful. I think we should all flaunt practicality in home design whenever the urge takes us.

I kinda like it, esp the artworks.

As for the Chinese characters, haha, even though I'm Chinese myself, those were too deep for me to fathom. :P
