Sad news which make me want to stop the clock

On the morning on Valentine's day, we learned the death of a friend in tragic circumstances in Granada, the night before. So we didn't have the heart to celebrate Valentine's because it just didn't feel right. I didn't have the heart either to post last wednesdays because of this shocking news. Michael was only 30 and had the most beautiful smile. Born of a Thai mother and a British father, he was an adored son and brother. He helped his mother in her Thai restaurant and was also a race car driver. Totally bilingual in English and Spanish, he gained himself the friendship of so many here because of his natural cheerfulness and appetite for life. It is such a terrible loss. I used to be neighbor with his parents when I lived in Restabal. And as ever words fail you. Words do not suffice to bring comfort to someone who lost a beloved son and brother. One feels stupidly awkward and helpless in this kind of situation. What can one do to alleviate the pain ? I promised his mother to come and visit more often. As we hugged, she said these wonderful words....enjoy life, enjoy life...that is all we have....How wise of her....and true also...We always take everything for granted and sometimes forget to love while we can...Good bye Michael, you are among the shining stars now and you are loved....

The Valentine's pastry course

Last saturday, I gave my first pastry course in my workshop, here in Andalucia....
and I'm still smiling thinking of the fun we had and reviewing each detail.
But, first I apologize for the lack of photos because there was never time really !

Samedi dernier, j'ai donné mon premier cours de pâtisserie ici dans mon atelier
en Andalousie et je souris encore en pensant à cette après-midi qui vraiment a été géniale.
Mais d'abord, toutes mes excuses pour le manque de photos mais il n' y avait pas le temps !

We were supposed to be 8, me included and in the end, 2 persons couldn't come so we were 6 in total. We worked in teams of 2 and wow...the participants, all very enthusiastic and lovely women showed some real passion in pastry making ! We started with a mini strawberry charlotte then the heart shaped chocolate fondant, made tiny roses with pink icing and ended with a well deserved tea with cakes, of course.
The only pictures I took are at the beginning, in full strawberry charlotte action and the one below is relaxing time with tea. I think everybody was glad to sit down at that stage as without being an intensive session, we did quite spend some energy. But there were also lots of laughter and loads of cheerful camaraderie and talk too. We started at 4h45pm and at 7h45pm, the participants left with a bag containing their strawberry charlotte to unmold the following day at home, the chocolate fondant they made and some sweet goodies for Valentine's. And me, I was exhausted but very happy because it has been a wonderful experience which I definitely want to repeat on a regular basis. Being able to share my love for pastry making has been top on my list of resolutions for 2012....

Nous étions censées être 8, moi y compris et au final 2 personnes n'ont pas pu venir donc on s'est retrouvées à 6 et on a travaillé par équipe de 2. Je dois dire que les participantes qui étaient particulièrement enthousiastes et adorables ont fait preuve d'une vraie passion pour la pâtisserie! Nous avons commencé par la mini charlotte aux fraises puis le fondant au chocolat en forme de petit cœur. On s'est aussi amusées à faire des roses avec du glaçage... rose et on a fini par un goûter bien mérité. Les seules photos que j'ai prises sont au début en pleine action de charlotte aux fraises et la photo ci-dessous durant la pause thé. Je crois que toutes les participantes étaient contentes de pouvoir enfin s'assoir parce que mine de rien, sans avoir été une session intensive, on a dépensé pas mal d'énergie. Mais il y a eu aussi beaucoup de fous rires et un esprit de joyeuse camaraderie et de bavardages aussi bien sûr. Nous avons commencé à 16h45 et à 19h45, les participantes sont parties avec un sac contenant leur mini charlotte à démouler le jour suivant, les petits fondants au chocolat qu'elles ont fait et des décorations en sucre spécial St Valentin. Et moi, j'étais crevée mais très contente parce que ce fut une expérience formidable que je tiens absolument à renouveler régulièrement. C'est un de mes vœux les plus chers pour 2012....partager mon amour de la pâtisserie.....

Tomorrow is Valentine's day and just in case you're in need of a pink fix I thought you would like this illustrated super easy recipe of the mini strawberry charlotte which we made.You will find the recipe and proportions at the bottom in English, French and Spanish for my Spanish readers and Mayela and Lola who had a last minute impediment.

To make the charlotte, I gave a bowl to the participants so that it would be easier to take home. So the charlotte I show you here is made inside of a bowl and not a pastry circle.

Demain c'est la St Valentin et juste au cas où vous auriez envie d'une dose de rose, j'ai pensé que vous aimeriez cette recette illustrée super facile de la mini charlotte aux fraises que nous avons préparée. Vous trouverez la recette et les proportions au bas du post en français, anglais comme d'habitude et aussi en espagnol pour mes lectrices espagnoles et Mayela et Lola qui ont eu un empêchement de dernière minute.

Pour faire la charlotte, j'ai donné un bol à chacune des participantes pour que le transport de retour chez elles soit plus facile. Donc la recette que je vous montre ici est une charlotte montée dans un bol et non pas un cercle en pâtisserie.

you can also pour the preparation in a cup or beautiful glass and sprinkle some strawberries
and pink biscuits

Vous pouvez aussi verser la préparation dans une tasse ou un joli verre et parsemer de fraises
et de biscuit roses émiettés.

MINI STRAWBERRY CHARLOTTE

Makes 4 mini charlotte

150g strawberries
1 egg white
60g sugar
20 ml water
150g thick cream
2 sheets of gelatin (or 1 g of agar agar)
ladyfingers
a few strawberries for decoration

Preparation :
Soak the sheets in a bowl of cold water. Wash the strawberries and puree them.
Heat the strawberry puree in a little pan. Wring gently the gelatin to remove excess water
then add it to the strawberry puree until it gets completely dissolved.

Make the meringue. Whisk the egg white in stiff peaks. Heat the sugar with the water up to 120°C.
(until you obtain a syrup).
Pour this syrup onto the egg white without ceasing whisking.
Blend the strawberry puree and the meringue together until homogeneous then add the thick cream. Mix well.
Mount the charlotte : line the molds with extendable film. This will make it easier to unmold the charlotte. Place the ladyfingers all around the mold and at the bottom. Pour the mixture into the mold and put it in the fridge min 8 hrs.
Unmold carefully then decorate the charlotte with a few strawberries.

MINI CHARLOTTE AUX FRAISES

Pour4 mini charlotte

150g de fraises
1 blanc d'œuf
60g de sucre
20 ml d'eau
150g de crème épaisse
2 de feuilles de gélatine (ou 1 g d'agar agar)
biscuits à la cuiller

Faire tremper les feuilles de gélatine dans un bol d'eau froide. Laver les fraises et les réduire en purée avec un mixeur. Dans une casserole, faire chauffer la purée de fraises. Essorer la gélatine délicatement et l'incorporer à la purée de fraises jusqu'à ce qu'elle soit complètement dissoute.

Préparer la meringue : battre le blanc d'œuf en neige ferme. Faire chauffer le sucre et l'eau à une température de 120°C pour obtenir un sirop. Verser ce sirop sur le blanc d'œuf en neige sans cesser de battre. Incorporer la meringue à la purée de fraises et ajouter la crème épaisse. Bien mélanger.
Préparer le moule : gainer le moule de film alimentaire. Ceci permettra un démoulage plus facile de la charlotte. Garnir le pourtour du moule avec des biscuits à la cuiller et aussi à la base. Puis verser la préparation dans le moule. Mettre la charlotte au frigo pendant 8h min.
Démouler avec précaution et décorer avec le restant de fraises.

MINI CARLOTA DE FRESAS

Para 4 mini carlotas

150g de fresas
1 clara de huevo
60g de azucar
20 ml de agua
150g de nata entera
2 de hojas de gelatina (ou 1 g de agar agar)
bizcochos a la cuchara

Preparación

Poner las hojas de gelatina en remojo en un bol de agua fría. Lavar las fresas y triturarlas con una batidora. En un cacharro, calentar la puree de fresas. Ecurrir la gelatina cuidadosamente para eliminar el exceso de agua. Añadir la gelatina a la puree de fresas y mezclar hasta que la gelatina se disuelve totalemente.
Preparar el merengue : batir la clara de huevo hasta el punto de nieve. Calentar el agua con el azucar hasta alcanzar 120°C, para conseguir un sirope. Verter este sirope en la clara de huevo sin cesar de batir. Incorporar el merengue en la puree de fresas y a continuacíon, añadir la nata entera. Mezclar bien.
Preparar el molde de carlota : forrar el molde con film estirable. Eso permite de desmoldar la carlota más facilmente. Poner los bizcochos en la pared del molde y también unos trozos en la base. A continuacíon, rellenar el molde con la preparación.
Introducir el molde en la nevera por 8h min.
Desmoldar cuidadosamente y decorar con fresas.

....Have you ever wanted to eat and digest good news ? Well....this is the cool proposition of this genius chef from Murcia. I really don't know how he does it but he reproduces newspaper in an edible form with various types of flour and squid ink for the text. I find the process interesting and amusing but I'm not too sure I would like it in my plate. Vázquez also created an edible Quijote which...wow...is quite a challenge...Actually I wouldn't mind eating an edible version of one of my favorite novels...a fun way to say I am what I eat and what I read, don't you think ?.....
I'm busy preparing the last details of my pastry course tomorrow but I just wanted to pop in

.....Ingurgiter des bonnes nouvelles, ça vous dit ? C'est la proposition assez cool du génial chef Firo Vázquez de Murcia. Il s'amuse à reproduire du papier journal rien qu'avec des mélanges de farines et de l'encre de seiche. Je trouve le procédé intéressant mais je n'aurais pas trop envie d'avoir ça dans mon assiette. Vázquez a aussi créé une version comestible du Don Quichotte, ce qui est quand même époustouflant. Tout compte fait, je trouverais amusant de grignoter peu à peu un de mes bouquins favoris....histoire de dire que l'on est ce qu'on mange et ce qu'on lit...
Je suis en train de fignoler les derniers petits détails de mon cours de pâtisserie demain mais je voulais juste faire un coucou et vous souhaiter un merveilleux week end...bisous...Lala

A cold market day in Andalucia

Yesterday was market day and I thought, gosh the stall holders are so brave
to get up early in the morning. We're having -4°C (28°F) at the moment at 7am, which
for Andalucia is really cold !

Hier c'était jour de marché et je pensais, que franchement ceux qui tiennent un stand
sont vraiment courageux pour se lever tôt le matin. Il fait -4°C en ce moment à 7h,
ce qui est très très froid pour l'Andalousie !

I love going to the local market on Wednesdays. It's a good way to bump into people you haven't seen for a while. I have my favorites sellers like Fernando who sells vegetables from his own garden and the cool guys of Ecovalle - a local association of ecological food producers. The smiling man with the funny camouflage hood is also one of my favorite stall-holders. I buy almonds to him and we always have a nice chat in French and Spanish. As a young man he used to work in France so he likes to practice his French and we talk a bit about everything. Yesterday, I discovered a stall I never noticed before, selling English products which was great for me because I have to go to Granada to get Earl Grey tea, so it was good...and I could even get the Twinings Lady Grey which is one of my favorites. And after being out in the cold.....a little 7°C, it was good to warm up my frozen fingers around a pot of tea and find this lovely postcard sent from Barcelona by Stephanie Levy and designed by her. I'm taking Stephanie's Creative Courage ecourse at the moment and it's wonderful. I must tell you more when the course is finished....

J'adore aller au marché le mercredi. On peut rencontrer plein de gens que l'on n'a pas vu depuis longtemps. J'ai mes stands préférés, comme Fernando qui vend les légumes de son jardin et les garçons très sympas de l'association Ecovalle qui regroupe des producteurs de fruits et légumes écologiques. Le monsieur tout souriant avec la drôle de chapka en camouflage est aussi un de mes fournisseurs préférés. Je lui achète des amandes et on fait toujours un brin de conversation en français et en espagnol. Quand il était jeune homme, il travaillait en France et il aime bien pratiquer cette langue, alors on parle un peu de tout. Hier, j'ai découvert un nouveau stand qui vend des produits anglais, ce qui est est super pour moi parce qu'il n' y a qu'à Grenade que je peux trouver du thé Earl Grey. Et le vendeur avait même un paquet de Lady Grey Twinings qui est un de mes préférés. De retour à la maison, j'étais bien contente de pouvoir me réchauffer les doigts autour d'une tasse de thé bien chaud et de trouver cette jolie carte envoyée de Barcelone par Stephanie Levy et créée par elle. Je suis son cours en ligne en ce moment, qui s'intitule Creative Courage et c'est fantastique. Je vous en dirai plus quand le cours sera terminé.

Spending a cold sunday in Andalucia, reading Balzac.....

....ou comment passer un dimanche très froid en Andalousie à lire et coller du Balzac !

It was so cold here yesterday in our little Andalusian corner that we stayed cosily in doors....Monchéri was obviously more interested in his laptop than in my conversation...(yes, it can happen !) and me, well at some point I got bored but soon found something funny to do. We have a very ugly table in the living room which I was planning to paint some day. But instead, due to boredom, I guess, I started to paste the top of the table with pages from a classical Larousse which belonged to my mother...Hem....not too sure she'd be pleased with the result....Well I was ! I think it blends well in our Moorish corner. Once I've covered the top and the sides, of course I had to cover the feet too and also made rosettes as adornments. In the end, it was quite entertaining and it gave me the opportunity to revisit Balzac's Le Père Goriot, a French literature classical....This with hot soup, chocolate cake and watching Babette's Feast for nth time made for a great fun sunday....I hope the weather is not too cold where you are and that you're keeping snug and cozy....

Also, thank you so much for your very warm comments about Juan Antonio's work in my last post. I must now find him and tell him. You see, Saturday I ran into his exhibition by chance while going to the grocer's. It was the last day and back home I realized that his phone number or email address are nowhere to be found on the leaflet I've been given. But it's a small village here so I'm sure I can find him and forward him all your questions and lovely comments.

Il a fait si froid ce dimanche dans notre petit coin d'Andalousie que l'on est resté bien au chaud à la maison....Monchéri visiblement était plus intéressé par son ordi que ma conversation...eh oui, ça arrive...et moi, juste au moment où je commençais à sombrer dans l'ennui, je me suis trouvé un truc sympa à faire. On a une petite table très vilaine dans le salon que j'avais le projet de peindre un de ces jours. Mais dû à l'ennui je pense, j'ai eu l'idée de la recouvrir avec des pages d'un vieux Larousse classique, qui appartenait à ma maman...Hum...je ne suis pas très sûre qu'elle aimerait le résultat...Moi oui ! Je trouve que ça se fond bien dans ce petit coin mauresque du salon. Après avoir recouvert le dessus et les côtés, il fallait bien recouvrir aussi les pieds et puis pourquoi pas, faire des rosettes en guise de décoration. Finalement, c'était plutôt sympa à faire et en plus, j'ai pu revisiter Le Père Goriot, un bon vieux classique....Un peu de lecture, une soupe chaude, un gâteau au chocolat et le re-re-visionnage du Festin de Babette pour la iénième fois....rien que des bons ingrédients pour un dimanche super sympa et douillet.
J'espère qu'il ne fait pas trop froid là où vous êtes et que vous êtes bien au chaud....

Aussi, merci beaucoup pour vos commentaires très chaleureux sur le travail de Juan Antonio dans mon dernier post. Il faut maintenant que je parte à sa recherche. En fait, samedi, je suis tombée tout à fait par hasard sur son expo en allant chez l'épicier. C'était le dernier jour de l'expo et de retour chez moi, je me suis rendue compte que ni son numéro de téléphone, ni son email ne figurent dans le dépliant que l'on m'a donné. Mais comme c'est un petit village ici, je suis sûre de pouvoir le recontrer de nouveau pour lui faire de tous vos adorables commentaires et questions.

For the love of gourds....

There's a man in my village who loves gourds not only to eat them but
also to make art with them and his creations are just amazing....yes..these are all gourds !

Il y un homme dans mon village qui a la passion des courges, pas seulement

Juan Antonio loves being in the countryside, planting trees and growing vegetable but his real passion is the gourd. Year after year, he grows them and then transforms them into beautiful and sometimes humoristical creations. (I particularly like his interpretation of the Spanish traditional dish with the morcilla (sausage). Juan Antonio was having an exhibition today in the village and I'm so happy I went and also the man is very simpatico. He could talk hours about his beloved gourds, the experiences he makes mixing the seeds and so on. It was a real pleasure to listen to him and I was really moved by his passion because once again, it just proves that poetry lies everywhere and is all around us if we want to see it.....Bravo Juan Antonio!

Juan Antonio Haro Molina adore être à la campagne, pour planter ses arbres et ses légumes mais sa vraie passion est la courge. Tous les ans, il s'adonne à la culture de ses curcubitacées favorites et les transforme ensuite en de merveilleuses créations artistiques et parfois humoristiques. (J'aime particulièrement son interprétation du plat traditionnel andalou avec la morcilla). Juan Antonio avait une expo aujourd'hui dans le village et je suis ravie d'y être allée et le monsieur est aussi muy simpatico. On sent qu'il pourrait parler des heures de ses courges bien aimées, des expériences qu'il fait en mélangeant les graines. C'était un vrai plaisir de l'écouter parler et sa passion m'a beaucoup émue parce qu'une fois de plus, cela prouve que la poésie est partout autour de nous si on veut la voir....Bravo Juan Antonio!

....."je crois aux lendemains qui chantent"....I believe in tomorrows which sing... this is what I wrote in my journal this morning without knowing really why. Perhaps because, I had to pay some bills today and needed an extra dose of enthusiasm to do so ! But I prefer to think that I wrote this because for the first time in many many months I feel truly at peace with myself. I've stopped trying to give myself impossible goals to achieve at all costs. I've stopped telling myself, yes but.... I've stopped thinking I should limit myself to do just one thing. Because, let's face it, I don't believe we're meant to do only one thing in life. For a long time, I thought my happiness and balance depended mostly on my recognition as an artist or designer. Today, I know it's not entirely true. There's another side I forgot about. A few days ago, I remembered this scene from one of my favorite movies, YoYo Ma - Sarabande by Atom Egoyan. Yo Yo Ma, the famous cellist gives a masterclass and interrupts his student, the actress Lori Singer and tells her : "When you play....try to think about what you do to those who listen to you...think about that...". I've always loved this quote and perhaps even more today because it's something I would like to focus more this year....to pass on happiness through creativity....Do you believe in that ? I do.... :-)

My special Valentine's pastry course

Do you remember a few posts ago, I was telling you 2012 will be a very sweet year for me ?
Not that I am over optimistic but I meant sweet....in the sense that I've decided to express
fully and poetically my passion for baking and pastry.
And.... I'm very pleased to tell you that I will be giving my first pastry course in a few days!

Vous vous souvenez, il y a quelques jours, je vous disais que 2012 serait une année
très sucrée pour moi ? Non, ce n'est pas par excès d'optimisme mais je voulais dire
sucrée dans le sens où j'ai décidé d'exprimer pleinement et poétiquement ma passion
pour la pâtisserie.
Et....je suis très contente de vous annoncer que je donnerai mon premier cours de
pâtisserie dans quelques jours !

The course will take place in my workshop on Saturday February 11th from 4.30pm to 7.30pm. The level is easy. As Valentine is coming soon, it will be a special heart and pink course. We will make heart shaped chocolate fondant and mini strawberry charlotte with pink biscuits I ordered specially from France. We will also play with pink fondant, making little roses or petals. The course will be part demonstration, then practice and we'll finish happily with tea and cake. You take home the chocolate fondant and strawberry charlotte you will have made to share with your loved one(s). And you also get the printed recipes and a surprise gift box from me. The price for the whole course is 30 € everything included.

I have set up a limited number of 6 and....7 lovely ladies already booked it : 3 English ladies and 4 Spanish ladies, so I will be giving the class in Spanish and English.
I'm telling you....I already love it !

Le cours de niveau simple aura lieu dans mon atelier, le samedi 11 février de 16h30 à 19h30. Ce sera une session spécial St Valentin avec au programme des fondants au chocolat en forme de coeur et des mini charlottes aux fraises réalisées avec des biscuits roses de Reims commandés spécialement pour l'occasion. On s'amusera aussi à faire des petites roses avec du fondant. Le cours commence par une démonstration puis on passe à la pratique et on termine dans la gaieté avec un goûter : thé et gâteau au chocolat. Vous emportez chez vous les créations réalisées, le fondant et la mini charlotte pour les partager le lendemain avec l'être cher ou des amis plus les recettes imprimées. Et j'ai aussi prévu pour vous une petite boîte cadeau surprise. Le tarif est 30 € tout compris.

J'avais limité le nombre de participants à 6 et....il y a déjà 7 personnes inscrites : 3 anglaises et 4 espagnoles, donc je ferai le cours en espagnol et en anglais.
Je sens déjà que j'adore ça !

The atelier de couture in Granada and reminiscences of a novel

...whereas so many shops shut down in Granada because of the crisis,
I couldn't help utter a cry of delight when I saw this couture atelier,
due to open soon on Acera del Darro.

....alors que de plus en plus de boutiques ferment à Grenade, à cause de la crise,
j'ai presque crié de joie quand j'ai vu l'apparition de cet atelier de couture,
sur Acera del Darro.

I must confess, I'm immensely curious as to who runs it, whether they make only custom clothes etc. I wonder whether they will organize fashion shows followed with cocktail parties. As you can see, there is a mobile phone number on the front window. Very tempting to call isn't it ? Yes....I think I'll call one day. I love so much the idea of setting up a couture shop in a private apartment. It takes me back to these glorious days of tailor-made and in my vivid imagination, this atelier is a spacious cosy place filled with rolls of silk and muslin fabrics. It would also have high ceilings and comfortable armchairs in which clients can relax while sipping a cup of tea.......well...exactly like in this novel I read before Christmas, which is a best seller here in Spain, El Tiempo Entre Costuras (Time between sewing) and tells the story of Sira a young Spanish seamstress who leaves Madrid during Spanish civil war and sets up a couture workshop in Spanish Protectorate of Morocco. A very entertaining novel of intrigue and romance with accurate descriptions of the historical background. I quite like to think that the owner of the atelier in Granada is a double of Sira. I'll let you know !

J'avoue que j'éprouve une immense curiosité : à qui appartient cet atelier, est-ce qu'on y réalise seulement des vêtements fait main, y aura t-il des défilés suivis de cocktails etc...Comme vous le voyez, il y a un numéro de portable sur la pancarte. Je suis assez tentée d'appeler. Oui...Je crois que j'appellerai un jour. J'adore l'idée d'installer un atelier de couture en appartement privé. Ça me rappelle les beaux jours du sur mesure. Dans mon imagination débridée, j'imagine un espace généreux et clair rempli de rouleaux de soie et de mousseline. Je vois aussi des hauts plafonds et des fauteuils comfortables où les clientes peuvent se prélasser tout en sirotant une tasse de thé...en fait...exactement comme dans ce roman que j'ai fini avant Noël qui est un best seller ici en Espagne, El Tiempo Entre las Costuras (le temps entre les coutures) et qui raconte l'histoire de Sira, une jeune modiste espagnole qui quitte Madrid durant la guerre civile et monte un atelier de couture dans le Protectorat espagnol du Maroc. Un roman trépidant d'intrigue et de romance avec des descriptions très précises du contexte historique. J'aime à penser que la propriétaire de cet atelier est un double de Sira. À vérifier !

Magical Monsieur Pierre Hermé

...I have a sweet tooth..I love flowers, subtle tastes and flavors and
delicate macarons so how not to fall in love with the latest collection of
Pierre Hermé's macarons. And I couldn't resist to print those so gorgeous images,
to paste them on my inspiration wall. For me, it's a feast of all the senses !

....J'ai la dent sucrée...J'aime les fleurs, les goûts et parfums subtils
et la délicatesse des macarons alors comment ne pas succomber à la dernière
collection de macarons de Pierre Hermé ! En plus, je n'ai pas pu résiser à imprimer
ces photos époustouflantes de beauté pour les mettre sur mon mur d'inspiration.
Une véritable fête de tous les sens !

There are some people in the world, I feel like saying thank you for your talent, your creativity, your poetry....French pastry maker Pierre Hermé is one of those. Not only, this man inspires me but I also learnt how to make really nice pastries reading his Larousse of desserts. Reading and practising...of course....I still feel a bit shy to make macarons but surely I'll give it a try one day. For this new collection entitled "Les jardins", Pierre Hermé created unusual combinations and flavors. In total, 10 new macarons will be presented in his shops, every month from this coming february. I so wish I could go to Paris every month just to taste each one of them ! Never mind...just for now, I'm quite happy to paste these pics on my inspiration board.
These are the three macarons which intrigue most : on top, Jardin oriental (Oriental garden) coming in october 2012, with orange blossom, rose and ginger flavors, in the middle, Jardin d'antan (garden of yesteryear) coming in november 2012, with anis and violet flavors and then at the bottom, coming in august 2012 Jardin d'été (summer garden) with lemon and caramelized fennel.

Il y a des gens dans le monde à qui j'ai envie de dire merci pour votre talent, créativité, poésie...Pierre Hermé est l'une de ces personnes. Non seulement, il m'inspire mais j'ai aussi appris énormément sur la pâtisserie et à réaliser de vrais bons gâteaux rien qu'en lisant son Larousse des desserts. En lisant et en pratiquant...bien sûr. Je suis encore très novice dans la réalisation de macarons mais ça viendra. Pour sa dernière collection intitulée "Les Jardins", Pierre Hermé a créé des associations de parfums et saveurs inattendues. Au total, 10 macarons seront présentés chaque mois dans ses boutiques à partir du mois de février. Si seulement je pouvais me rendre à Paris tous les mois pour les goûter ! Pour le moment, je me régale de ces photos que je vais mettre sur mon mur de collages.
Les trois macarons qui me font le plus envie sont : à partir du haut, Jardin oriental, parfumé à la fleur d'oranger, rose et gingembre, au milieu, en boutique en octobre 2012, au milieu, Jardin d'antan aux parfums de violette et d'anis, en boutique en novembre 2012 et en bas, Jardin d'été au citron et fenouil caramélisé, en boutique en août 2012.

My workshop this morning...and my new aprons

I did a little photoshoot of my new aprons in my workshop this morning.
Please, don't think my workshop always looks that neat....I did a good hour
cleaning beforehand....of course....!

Ce matin, j'ai fait une petite séance photo dans mon atelier pour vous montrer
mes nouveaux tabliers. Forcément, j'ai d'abord dû nettoyer une bonne heure...
ne croyez surtout pas que mon atelier est toujours aussi net...pas du tout...!

My new aprons are made of pre-washed linen. They're straight so the big boys can wear them too. I hand stitched some fun phrases on the top. I will have more colors coming, especially a very nice purple/prune. At the moment, my favorite is the "cake is the answer" one, because right now, it's, let's say, my reality. I will explain more next week !
I'm still making the pretty pinny too in toile and yes, I will open my etsy shop again soon. I have kept it closed for too long now and also because I was busy elsewhere but it's time to have it rolling. Another resolution for 2012 !
So tell me, do you like my new aprons and I'm curious to know, do you have a favorite color for your apron ?

Mes nouveaux tabliers sont en lin prélavé. Ils sont droits, donc les garçons peuvent aussi les porter. J'ai brodé des petites expressions sympas en haut. Il y aura plus de couleurs disponibles, en particulier un violet/prune très joli. En ce moment, mon préféré est le blanc "cake is the answer" (j'ai du mal à traduire cette expression, en gros, rien de tel qu'un gâteau) parce que ces jours-ci, c'est un peu ma réalité. Je vous expliquerai la semaine prochaine !
Je fais toujours aussi les tabliers style vintage en toile de Jouy et oui, je vais réouvrir ma boutique etsy bientôt. Ma pauvre boutique est restée trop longtemps fermée parce que j'étais occupée ailleurs mais il est temps de la faire marcher. Encore une autre résolution pour 2012!
Alors, dites-moi, aimez-vous mes nouveaux tabliers et je suis curieuse de savoir si vous avez une couleur préférée pour un tablier ?

Celebrating Mediterranean food......

...petite pause gourmande méditerranéenne ce week end, sur la plage, chez Tito,
avec un beau risotto tout noir à l'encre de seiche....un délice !

If you have a salty tooth and if the idea of black food doesn't put you off...then
you must try the squid ink risotto.... For me, it's more interesting than just paella,
and even if it makes my lips black, I swear I could eat tons of it.....nearly every day...

Si vous êtes plutôt salé et si l'idée d'un plat tout noir ne vous rebute pas.....alors,
il faut absolument que vous goûtiez ce risotto à l'encre de seiche.....Pour moi, c'est
un plat qui est plus intéressant qu'une paella toute simple, et même si j'ai les lèvres
toutes noircies après, je pourrais en manger des tonnes...presque tous les jours...

Pastel paper heart bags.....a cool DIY for cold rainy days

Just before Christmas, I received some lovely emails from readers and in a couple of them,
I've been kindly asked if, please could you once in a while, do a DIY post and I thought,
what a great idea !
So this is my very first DIY post. I hope you will like it because I'd never thought but it took me a huge amount of time !
As you know, Valentine's is slowly approaching....
so why not make these pretty pastel heart bags ?

Juste avant Noël, j'ai reçu des emails très sympas de lecteurs et 2 lectrices m'ont demandé
gentiment si je pouvais de temps en temps faire un post sur des objets en papier à faire soi-même.
Et je me suis dit, mais oui...quelle bonne idée !
Alors voilà, c'est mon premier post "Faites-le vous-même".
J'espère qu'il vous plaira, parce que je n'aurais jamais cru mais j'y ai passé un temps fou !
Comme vous le savez, la Saint-Valentin arrive tout doucement...
alors pourquoi ne pas faire ces jolis petis sacs-coeurs en papier ?

all you need is this :
paper to cut your hearts + the bandwidth
cutter
X-acto
pencil
eraser
ruler
scissors
glue (I use white liquid glue for wood which I dilute in water)
cupcake paper
doilie
satin ribbon
*the cutting mat is not entirely necessary as you can cut the hearts with scissors

Vous avez besoin de :
papier pour les coeurs + la largeur
cutter
X-acto
crayon
gomme
règle
ciseaux
colle (j'utilise de la colle à bois liquide que je dilue dans de l'eau)
caissette de cupcake
napperon en papier dentelle
ruban de satin
*le tapis de coupe n'est pas vraiment nécessaire car on découper les coeurs
avec des ciseaux

Let's get started : first, draw and cut a heart in paper. And use it to draw and cut 2 hearts of the same size. Mine is 12 cm high and 15,5 cm wide.

Pour commencer, on trace et on découpe un coeur qui servira de modèle pour tracer et découper 2 coeurs de la même taille. Le mien fait 12 cm en hauteur et 15,5 cm en largeur.

We now prepare the flower with the cupcake paper + a strip of doilie of 20 cm x 7,5 cm
On prépare la fleur avec la caissette en papier + une bande de napperon dentelle de 20 cm x 7,5 cm
You fold the cupcake paper this way
On plie la caissette en papier

You place the doilie around it to make it look like a flower. And you apply a bit of glue on the tip of the folded cupcake paper to make it stay inside of the doilie.

On forme une fleur avec la bande de papier dentelle et on applique un peu de colle à l'extrémité de la corolle en papier pour la faire tenir à l'intérieur de la fleur en dentelle.

You make a hole with the cutter in the center of the heart to insert the flower.

On découpe une petite ouverture au cutter au centre du coeur pour insérer la fleur en papier.

That's it.... the flower is inserted. Apply a bit of glue to fix the tip and paste a small bit of doilie if you want to make it neater.

Voilà...la fleur est insérée. On applique un peu de colle sur l'extrémité pour la fixer et on appose un petit carré de papier dentelle dessus pour que ce soit plus net.

We now prepare the paper strip which will hold the 2 hearts together. For this size of heart, the width is 6 cm x 22 cm. With the X-acto, we trace a line on both sides at 1 cm and 1 line at the center. We also have to punch it on both ends. Hope you are still following !

On prépare maintenant la bande de papier pour réunir les 2 coeurs. La bande de papier fait 6 cm x 22 cm. Avec l'X-acto, on trace une ligne sur les deux côtés à 1 cm + 1 ligne au centre. On fait aussi un trou aux deux extrémités pour passer le ruban. J'espère que vous suivez toujours !

Cut the paper as shown below.....
On fait une petite découpe comme montré ci-dessous.....

And we're now ready to paste it on the front heart with the flower.
On peut maintenant coller la bande sur le coeur avec la fleur.

Nearly finished....
Presque fini.....

We now place the ribbon on both sides.
On attache maintenant le ruban sur les deux côtés.

Et voilà.....!
a pretty little paper bag to use everyday...not only on Valentine's...
un joli petit sac en papier à utilliser tous les jours et
pas seulement pour la St Valentin....

Dreaming of this romantic garden in Nigüelas on this rainy monday...

Sometimes, I like to wander through the narrow paths in the countryside nearby....
There was a sign saying Jardines Müller and I followed the lane amidst the olive groves.
I reached a black gate which was locked but luckily a gardener which was working inside,
let me in to visit this magical garden.

Parfois, j'aime bien me perdre dans les chemins de campagne tout près de chez moi....
Il y avait une pancarte indiquant Jardines Müller et j'ai suivi le chemin parmi les oliviers.
Je suis arrivée à un portail noir qui était cadenassé mais par chance, un jardinier
m'a fait entrer et j'ai pu visiter cet endroit magique.

The Müller gardens in Nigüelas are private gardens which you can rent for
weddings and events. I can't wait to visit this place again in summer to see it in full bloom...
As we are having a very grey and cold monday, today, these pics taken last thursday
cheer me up and make me feel romantic....As if I wasn't romantic enough....
You see, even my new diary puts me in a romantic mood.

I have a new baby in the patio,
a little lemon tree.....

J'ai un nouveau bébé dans le patio,
un petit citronnier....

I will wait patiently until it grows, put it in a bigger pot...
It's my dream to make lemon meringue pie with my own lemons.
In the mean time, generous friends give me lemons from their garden.
And I spend a happy time in the kitchen making tartlets.

Je vais attendre patiemment qu'il pousse, le transplanter dans un pot plus grand...
C'est mon rêve de faire des tartes au citron meringuées avec mes propres citrons.
En attendant, des amis généreux me donnent des citrons de leur jardin.
Et je me régale dans la cuisine à faire des tartelettes.

And then, why not make a little gift box...just for the pleasure ?

5 notebooks on the theme of the elements and the spirit.
They had to be simple, minimalist with a handwritten text inside.
Hope the recipient will like it !

J'adore les commandes personnalisées. Celle-ci m'a demandé un peu de réflexion.
5 carnets sur le thème des éléments et de l'esprit.
Ils doivent être simples, minimalistes avec un texte manuscrit à l'intérieur.

Do you know that macarons are still a rarity in Spain ?
So I was really thrilled to find these in the Gourmet boutique of El Corte Inglès this morning.
A lovely surprise indeed.....

Savez-vous que les macarons sont encore une rareté en Espagne ?
Alors quel plaisir de trouver ceux-là dans la boutique Gourmet d'El Corte Inglès ce matin.
Une délicieuse surprise vraiment.....

They are individually packed and they taste surprisingly fresh and delicious

Ils sont emballés individuellement et ils sont étonnament délicieux avec un bon goût
de fraîcheur

For me, 2012 will be without a doubt a year busy....with baking...

Before finding the macarons, I bought
this adorable pink pastry bag in silicone from Spanish brand Lékué,
at La Oca shop in Granada.

Yes...this is my first resolution of the year,
whenever possible.... to have an un-rushed rustic chic breakfast...
just to start the day....quietly....

Voilà ma première résolution de l'année,
si possible....déjeuner le matin sans hâte, dans un style chic rustique....
juste histoire de commencer la journée.....doucement....

My new room next to the roof terrace is still un-decorated. Never mind, it will come. These days, I have breakfast here on my own. Fresh orange juice, panettone, confiture Bonne Maman, Earl Grey tea. I sit on an old Morroccan pouf covered with a bit of lace. A tiny old bench from Monchéri's garden is my little table. Magazines, a book and my diary....
Oh...and....a bit of Andalusian sunshine...That's enough to make my day !

Ma nouvelle chambre qui donne sur la terrasse sur le toit reste toujours à décorer. Mais ça vient. Ces jours-ci, je prends le petit déjeuner ici, toute seule. Jus d'orange pressée, panettone, confiture Bonne Maman aux mûres, thé Earl Grey. Je m'assois sur un vieux pouf marocain recouvert de dentelle. Un vieux banc minuscule du jardin de Monchéri me sert de table. Des magazines, un bouquin et mon journal....
Oh et puis bien sûr.....un peu de soleil andalou....Juste ce qu'il faut pour bien démarrer la journée!

Andalusian white

When shall I have a chance to experience a white Christmas in Andalucia ? Probably not in a long time....Blue skies and sunshine, this is what we are having right now and honestly I'm not going to complain. On the first day of the year, Monchéri and I took the road to the Alpujarras mountains. The plan was to have lunch in a small village called Mecina Fondales.
What I like most when we both travel somewhere is that we stop a lot en route. There's no hurry at all and if we spot a nice sunny café on the side of the road, then we just stop for a little while. We are really slow life adepts....so we stayed in this café for half hour, basking in the sun....

Je crois que nous n'aurons jamais de Noël blanc en Andalousie...Du ciel bleu et du soleil....c'est notre cadeau de début d'année et franchement je ne me plains pas. Le jour de l'an, Monchéri et moi avons pris la route des Alpujarras. On avait prévu de déjeuner dans un petit village appelé Mecina Fondales.
Ce que j'aime le plus quand on part tous les deux en balade est qu'on s'arrête tout le temps. On n'est pas pressé et si on voit un café sympa au bord de la route, alors on s'arrête. On est vraiment des adeptes de la vie lente....on est resté une demi heure assis sur cette terrasse au soleil....

So the plan was to have lunch in Mecina Fondales but Monchéri had also envisaged a romantic rustic picnic. He brought jamon serrano and bread in his backpack. Just enough for tapas. For me, that was the best part of the day...We ate our jamon serrano, under an almond tree, facing the hills and the almond groves afar.

Donc le plan, c'était de déjeuner à Mecina Fondales mais Monchéri avait aussi pensé à un pique-nique rustique et romantique. Il avait mis du pain et du jamon serrano dans sa musette. Juste assez pour des tapas. Pour moi, c'était le meilleur moment de la journée...On a mangé notre jamon serrano, sous un amandier, face aux collines et aux vergers au loin...

We did make it to Mecina Fondales which is a very tiny village....White, quiet and sunny....

Et finalement, nous sommes arrivés à Mecina Fondales qui est un très petit village....Blanc, calme et ensoleillé....

We explored its narrow streets, walked through the fields and had a beer at a small café. And we had lunch...finally... at 4pm in a cute piano bar called La Cueva de Mora Luna run by a very simpatico Argentinian man.

Nous avons exploré ses ruelles étroites...nous nous sommes baladés dans les champs et avons bu une bière dans un petit café. Nous avons déjeuné...finalement.... vers 16h dans un piano bar qui s'appelle La Cueva de Mora Luna tenu par un Argentin très simpatico.

There's something really peaceful about these limewashed walls...Don't you think ? Yes, I really like this Andalusian white. Especially in the sun.....

The last wrapping of the year...the last baking of the year

With a big smile on my face, this morning I went to our local post office to send 2 aprons to Paris. For some people, Christmas is not over yet and this was my last order of the year.
In the afternoon, I made one orange and almond cake and one chocolate cake with candied oranges. Did you try it yet ? If you haven't, you must ! Here is the recipe. So easy to make and delicious result garanteed....
Are you all preparing some great food to celebrate the New Year ? Truth is, I haven't thought about it yet ! Oh well....I hope I have some last minute inspiration !

Ce matin, j'étais toute souriante pour aller au bureau de poste du village, car j'ai envoyé ma dernière commande de l'année : 2 tabliers. Eh oui, pour certains Noël ce n'est pas encore fini et c'est tant mieux.
Séquence pâtisserie dans l'après-midi : un gâteau à l'orange et aux amandes et un gâteau au chocolat et oranges confites. L'avez-vous essayé ? Si vous ne l'avez pas encore essayé, c'est un must ! La recette est ici. Si simple à faire et résultat garanti....
Que préparez-vous de bon pour le réveillon ? À vrai dire, je n'y ai pas encore pensé....Enfin...je compte sur une inspiration de dernière minute !

Christmas in the Andalusian countryside

Christmas in the Andalusian countryside is festive but also wonderfully simple. Here, people usually have a nice good meal on Christmas eve and wait until King's day to exchange gifts. On Christmas day, everybody is out, sharing a drink with friends or another meal with family. We chose to be just the two of us and spend a romantic Christmas day. At the moment, winter is barely perceptible here. It was a perfect sunny day to go out for a walk in our favorite pinewood forest. We picked up pine cones, played hide and seek, stood in the sun until the last rays were gone. On our way back, we stopped by a bar on the side of the road, la Venta del Fraile. We were hoping for a cosy and warm place and the first thing we saw was a nice roaring chimney fire. Just what we wanted. But I liked even more the windowed wall through which we could see a shepherd and his flock of goats. For a moment, I thought the view was nearly too good to be true, especially on a Christmas day. A shepherd guiding his flock....But there it was, right in front of us....this splendid and quiet image of peace, simplicity and love around us....
Just my idea of Christmas.

Noël dans la campagne andalouse est un jour de fête mais qui reste merveilleusement simple. Ici, la veille de Noël, on partage un bon repas en famille et on attend le jour des Rois pour échanger les cadeaux. Le jour de Noël, tout le monde est dehors. On boit un verre entre amis ou on déjeune en famille. Nous, on a choisi de passer Noël tous les deux en amoureux. En ce moment l'hiver ne se fait presque pas sentir. C'était une journée de soleil magnifique pour sortir en forêt, dans notre pinède préférée. On a passé quelques heures à ramasser des pommes de pin, jouer à cache-cache, rester debout sous les derniers rayons du soleil. Au retour, on s'est arrêtés dans un bar sur le bas-côté de la route. Pourvu qu'il fasse bon à l'intérieur, on s'était dit. Mais mieux que ça, un bon feu nous attendait. Et puis surtout, à travers l'immense paroi vitrée, on pouvait voir un berger et son troupeau de chèvres. Pendant un moment, je me suis dit que cette image était presque trop belle pour être vraie...un berger menant son troupeau dans la nature, le jour de Noël...Mais si, c'était là devant nos yeux : une image belle et tranquille de douceur, de simplicité et d'amour....
Tout simplement l'idée que je me fais de Noël.
Je vous souhaite beaucoup de joie et d'amour en cette période de fêtes.

I'm cooking a whole Mediterranean meal for Christmas eve.
The kitchen is in a mess and so is my hair.
But honestly I don't mind.

What better combination than music and Italian cuisine ? My friend Gym organized a fabulous blues night last saturday in her barn, the Sandpit Club. Downstairs, the bar was heaving and the band Bluesiana Express was on the top of its form, giving a great performance. Upstairs, Alejandra and Maria were very busy serving the delicious Italian food they had prepared. We had the antipasti, the spaghetti alle vongole, the tiramisu.....mamma mia....The only thing I could tell them all night was : chicas, sois las diosas de la cucina italiana ! (girls, you're the goddesses of Italian cuisine !) Alejandra is Italian and had her own restaurant in Italy. She followed her husband Paco to Spain and now lives in the Lecrin Valley for our great delight. She teamed up recently with Maria who is from Valencia to set up a food project together.

The day after, Alejandra and Maria took part to the artisans market in Niguëlas, on the plaza. They brought their portable cooker and made food again. Although, I had a very late breakfast and wasn't much hungry I couldn't resist their ensalata panzanella....Honestly, these girls know how to make your heart sing and bring sunshine into your plate ! Gym came along very late, that day too at the market and had the last plate of clams. We sat on the steps of a house nearby the church on the plaza, eating and chatting. At 5pm, when the last rays of sun disappeared, musicians arrived to play a traditional Christmas concert in the church.
Yes, I say it again, life is good in Andalusia.....

Musique et cuisine italienne....qu'y a-t-il de mieux ? Mon amie Gym a organisé une soirée blues fantastique samedi dernier, dans sa grange-loft The Sandpit Club. En bas, le bar était bourré de monde et le groupe Bluesiana Express était au meilleur de sa forme. En haut, Alejandra et Maria servaient des plats italiens absolument délicieux. On a goûté aux antipasti, aux spaghetti alle vongole, au tiramisu....mamma mia...Je n'ai pas arrêté de leur dire toute la soirée : chicas, sois las diosas de la cucina italiana ! (franchement les filles, vous êtes les déesses de la cuisine italienne !) Alejandra est italienne et avait son propre restaurant en Italie. Elle a suivi son mari Paco en Espagne et vit maintenant dans la vallée de Lecrin pour notre plus grand plaisir. Elle s'est associée récemment avec Maria qui est de Valencia pour monter un projet culinaire ensemble.
Le lendemain, Alejandra et Maria participaient à un marché artisanal sur la place de Niguëlas. Elles ont apporté leur réchaud et ont servi des assiettes d'aubergine au parmesan, de polenta. Même si j'avais pris mon petit déjeuner très tard et n'avais pas très faim....qu'importe...la tentation était trop forte de goûter à leur ensalata panazanella...Honnêtement ces filles savent mettre du soleil dans l'assiette ! Gym est venue aussi très tard au marché et a raflé la dernière assiette de palourdes. On s'est assises sur les marches d'une maison près de l'église et on mangé et papoté. Vers cinq heures de l'après-midi, les derniers rayons de soleil ont disparu lentement puis des musiciens sont arrivés pour donner un concert de Noël traditionnel dans l'église.
Oui, je le redis encore, la vie a du bon en Andalousie....

Christmas rocks in Granada

Last saturday, I intended to do some serious Christmas shopping in Granada but instead, I got stuck plaza Pasiegas where Los Térmicos were giving a free concert and it was too good to miss it. So my shopping has been postponed which I don't mind at all. Let's enjoy the day !

Samedi dernier, j'étais toute prête à faire des emplettes de Noël à Grenade mais finalement je me suis retrouvée plaza de las Pasiegas où le groupe Los Térmicos donnaient un concert gratuit. Et franchement, c'était trop bien pour ne pas le manquer. Donc, mes achats de Noël, ce sera pour un autre jour ce qui ne m'ennuie pas du tout d'ailleurs. Il faut profiter de la vie !

The chocolate and candied orange cake

divine chocolate and candied orange cake created by Pierre Hermé

Je crois que je n'aurais pas pu trouver meilleur ambassadeur que Monchéri pour
vous présenter le divin cake au chocolat et aux oranges confites de Pierre Hermé

Believe me, this cake is very easy to make and absoluty gorgeous. I slightly modified the original recipe to make it simpler. The only time consuming step is the making of the candied oranges but otherwise it's very basic.

Croyez-moi ce cake est très facile et est vraiment délicieux. J'ai légèrement modifié la recette originale pour la simplifier. La seule étape un peu longue est la préparation des oranges confites mais sinon, la marche à suivre est très simple.

INGREDIENTS

for 2 cakes of 18 cm x 8 cm
preparation : 30 mn (4 days in advance)
baking : 1h

(I found a program on Internet to convert grams into tbsp and lb, I hope the conversion is right)

125g / 1/4 lb of sultanas
200g / 2 cups of flour
50g / 1 tbsp of powder cocoa
5g / 1 tsp of baking powder
250g / 1/2 lb of butter
250g / 1/2 lb of sugar
4 eggs
350g of candied oranges (approx. 2 medium oranges)
50g / 1 tbsp of apricot jam
bits of candied orange to decorate
3 spoonfuls of rhum

The night before : soak the sultanas in the rhum.

Prepare the candied oranges : cut the oranges in slices. Place them in a pan covered with 200g of sugar and one spoonful of water. Cook on low fire until bubbles are forming and the oranges start to caramelize.

Mix together the flour, the cocoa and the baking powder. Melt the butter.
Cut the candied oranges in dice.

Preheat the oven at 250°C / 482°F.

Beat the butter with the sugar until it foams. Add the eggs one by one. Then, add the mix of flour, cocoa and baking powder. When the whole mix is homogeneous, add the sultanas with rhum and the dice of candied oranges. Mix well.

Pour the batter in the 2 molds and bake for 1 hour, and reduce the temperature immediately at 180°c / 356°F.

When the cakes are baked, unmold them and let them cool down for 10 mn.

Heat the apricot jam in a pan then cover the cakes with it.
Decorate with candied oranges.

Note: the recipe says you have to make this cake 4 days in advance but even on the day, it's very good.

INGRÉDIENTS

pour 2 cakes de 18 cm x 8 cm
préparation : 30 mn (4 jours à l'avance)
cuisson : 1h

125g of de raisins secs de Smyrne
200g de farine
50g de cacao en poudre
5g de levure
250gde beurre
250g de sucre
4 oeufs
350g d'oranges confites (environ 2 oranges moyennes)
50g de configure d'abricot
morceaux d'orange confite pour décorer
3 cuillerées à soupe de rhum

La veille : faire tremper les raisins dans le rhum.

Préparer les oranges confites : Couper les oranges en rondelles. Les placer dans une casserole et recouvrir avec 200g de sucre et une cuillerée à soupe d'eau. Faire cuire à feu doux jusqu'à ce que des bulles se forment et que les oranges commencent à caraméliser. Couper les oranges en dés.

Bien mélanger la farine, le cacao en poudre et la levure. Faire fondre le beurre. Couper les oranges en dés.

Préchauffer le four à 250°C.

Battre le beurre et le sucre ensemble jusqu'à obtenir un mélange mousseux. Puis, ajouter le mélange farine/cacao/levure. Lorsque le mélange est homogène, ajouter les raisins secs avec le rhum et les morceaux d'oranges confites. Bien mélanger.

Verser la pâte dans les 2 moules et faire cuire pendant 1h. Réduire immédiatement la température à 180°C.

Lorsque les cakes sont cuits, les démouler et laisser refroidir sur une grille pendant 10 mn.

Faire chauffer la confiture d'abricot et napper les cakes. Décorer avec des morceaux d'oranges confites.
Remarque : la recette dit de préparer ce cake 4 jours à l'avance mais il est aussi très bon le jour-même.

In the living room upstairs, her brothers Willie and Elliot were making and serving tea.
Here they are finishing up to set up the table with the cakes.
In the end, I didn't have time to bake what I had planned for the tea party
so I ordered 200 pink miniature meringues. Absolutely lovely but
but the problem is that they were incredibly sticky !

Dans le salon, au premier étage, ses frères Willie et Elliot préparaient et servaient le thé.
Ici, ils finissent de décorer la table. En fin de compte, je n'ai pas eu le temps de
faire les gâteaux que j'avais prévus pour le thé et j'ai commandé 200 meringues
roses miniatures. Effet romantique garanti mais petit problème,
elles étaient très collantes aux doigts !

I think everybody tried that hat yesterday ! Girls, boys and in the end,
a lovely man ordered me one slightly bigger.

Je crois que tout le monde a essayé cette toque hier ! Les filles comme les garçons
et au final, un monsieur très sympa m'a commandé une toque plus grande.

and this is a gift from Maria Teresa, the haberdasher in the village.
She came with her 2 daughters and bought a few gift boxes from me.
Then she gave me this lovely scarf. I was so touched because I know she
made it herself. Isn't it beautiful ?

et ça c'est un cadeau de Maria Teresa, qui tient la mercerie dans le village.
Elle est venue avec ses 2 filles et m'a acheté quelques boîtes cadeaux.
Puis elle m'a offert cette adorable écharpe. J'étais vraiment touchée parce que
je sais qu'elle l'a faite elle-même. C'est beau, non ?

It was really a great day for me, because it gave me more ideas on how to use my studio in the future. I'm already thinking of my next event ! But just for now, I need to rest a bit because as you can imagine, this little event took a lot of time, effort and energy. Luckily I've got Monchéri and some really fantastic friends who helped me through it. Thank you so much Josiane, Pascale, Rob and Ruth !
My sweet readers, I'll be back on the blog on friday....with the chocolate and candied orange cake recipe. Again, it was a great sucess yesterday, so now I've got orders for Christmas and New Year, plus 2 fur hats for a nice couple. So it will keep my little fingers busy again !

La journée d'hier a vraiment été formidable pour moi parce que j'ai maintenant plein d'idées pour mon atelier à l'avenir. Je suis déjà en train de penser à mon prochain évènement ! Mais pour le moment, j'ai besoin de souffler un peu parce que comme vous pouvez l'imaginer, l'organisation de cette journée a demandé pas mal de temps, d'effort et d'énergie. Antlers finished and a little hello from me.....

but truth is, time escapes me totally these days.....

The Christmas bazaar at Finca del Castillo Arabe last sunday went well. Unfortunately I was much too busy to take photos which is a shame really. I sold a few aprons, which was great and had the best compliment for our chocolate and candied orange cake. We had it for tasting and it sold out very quickly. Ok, I must confess, the recipe is from Pierre Hermé. When my little show at home this coming sunday is over, I must share it with you because honestly it's a wonderful cake for the holiday.
But just for now, I wanted to pop in and say hello and thank you for your sweet comments on the blog and facebook which always make me smile and uplift me.

Le marché de Noël à la Finca del Castillo Arabe dimanche dernier s'est bien passé. Malheureusement, j'étais trop occupée pour prendre des photos ce qui est vraiment dommage. Je suis contente car j'ai vendu quelques tabliers et le gâteau au chocolat et aux oranges confites a été un succès total. Nous l'avions présenté en dégustation et tout s'est vendu très vite. Ok, je dois avouer que la recette est de Pierre Hermé. Dès que mon petit show à la maison ce dimanche est terminé, je dois la partager avec vous parce que vraiment c'est un merveilleux dessert pour Noël.
Mais pour le moment, je voulais juste vous faire un petit coucou et vous remercier pour vos commentaires adorables sur le blog et facebook qui me font toujours sourire et me redonnent de l'énergie.

A little crafty break : Making cardboard antlers

My sweet readers, I thought you might like to see what I was doing during this past
rainy week end....
Mes lecteurs chéris, j'ai pensé que vous aimeriez jetez un coup d'oeil sur ce que
j'ai fait durant ce dernier week end pluvieux.....

As I told you in my last post, I'm currently decorating my home for my little exhibition on dec 4th. I thought I'd give a christmassy feeling to the living room upstairs with some cardboard antlers. Was I very optimistic to think it would only take me a couple of hours to make two of these ? Well, yes ! And still, as you can see it's not finished. In the end, I'm going to cover it all with white paper. I don't really like the result with the white paint so I could have easily bypassed the newspaper pasting on it. I'll show you the final result very soon !

Comme je vous le disais dans mon dernier post, je décore la maison pour ma petite expo du 4 décembre. Pour créer une ambiance très Noël dans le salon au premier étage, je me suis dit que des bois de cerf en carton feraient plutôt joli. Mais franchement j'étais trop optimiste de penser que cela ne me prendrait que deux heures ! Et en plus, je n'ai pas fini. Comme je n'aime pas trop le résultat je vais tout recouvrir de papier blanc. En fait j'aurais pu sauter l'étape du collage de papier journal. À très bientôt pour le résultat final !

yes, my lovelies this is what I propose to you this week.....to escape to this romantic
setting in Venice, if like me you feel a bit overwhelmed.....

eh oui mes chéris, c'est ce que je vous propose cette semaine...une escapade virtuelle
à Venise...si comme moi, vous vous sentez un peu débordé....

These past days life is a bit too busy for me at my little castle in Spain. I'm preparing stuff for a Christmas market which will take place on sunday 27th november at my friend Scarlett (do you remember the beautiful Casa Amelia here ?). Then on sunday 4th december, I'm having an exhibition of my work at home. So it means, setting up the whole workshop as a nice ambiance shop plus decorating the house and planning baking as we will also serve tea and cakes. At the moment, I'm also doing a big translation job which takes me 7hrs a day and then well, I must dedicate a few more hours to make more cards, more aprons, eat, try to stay calm and serene which unfortunately is impossible ! My sweet Monchéri has to put up with my changing mood. I'm a bit nervous because it's the first time I'm showing my work at home and my sense of perfection is just killing me. So, I guess, I'll just cool down.
I feel a bit peevish to tell you that you won't see me much on the blog on this week, as let's face it, I won't have much time. I still hope to come and say hello on friday and tell you how it goes. In the meantime, I wish you a wonderful week.....See you soon my dear lovely readers....

Ces derniers jours, le rythme s'est un peu accéléré dans mon petit château en Espagne. Je prépare un marché de Noël qui aura lieu le 27 novembre chez mon amie Scarlett (vous vous souvenez la belle Casa Amelia ?). Le dimanche d'après, 4 décembre, j'ai une expo à la maison de mes créations. Donc ça veut dire que je suis en train de transformer l'atelier en petite boutique sympa. La maison aussi doit être décorée car on servira du thé et des petits gâteaux faits maison. En ce moment j'ai aussi un gros boulot de traduction qui me prend 7h par jour et je dois glaner quelques heures en plus pour faire plus de cartes, plus de tabliers, prendre le temps de manger, d'essayer de rester calme et sereine ce qui malheureusement est impossible ! Et mon adorable chéri supporte tant bien que mal mes sautes d'humeur. Je suis un peu anxieuse parce que c'est la première fois que j'organise une expo chez moi et je sens que mon perfectionnisme va bientôt m'achever. Bon, le plus important est d'arriver à rester zen.
Je me sens un peu piteuse de vous dire que vous ne me verrez pas beaucoup sur le blog cette semaine parce que, franchement je n'aurai pas le temps. J'espère tout de même vous faire un petit coucou avant le week end....
En attendant, je vous souhaite à tous de passer une très belle semaine...alors à bientôt mes lecteurs chéris....

Exotic woolly things

Did I tell you I love knitting ?
Vous ai-je déjà dit que j'adore tricoter ?

but alas, I don't have much time at the moment. These collars and neck warmer were made some time ago. I took them out of their box the other morning and had lots of fun shooting these pictures in the patio. I quite like the idea of a collar which can be converted into an ankle warmer inside a babouche....

mais hélas je n'ai pas beaucoup de temps en ce moment. J'ai fait ces cols et cache-cou il y a quelque temps déjà. When winter comes in Andalucia.....

to take a walk with Monchéri in the little village of Nigüelas.

and after the walk, we stopped at the charming Alqueria de los Lentos for a comforting beer and vino tinto with tapas of course. Did I tell you how much I love this Spanish tradition ? Whenever, I order a drink somewhere, I always wonder what kind of little treat will come with it, fish, meat, cured ham, tortilla or shrimps I love them all !

et après la promenade, nous nous sommes arrêtés dans un charmant restaurant Alqueria de los Lentos pour une bière et un verre de vin rouge avec des tapas bien sûr. Est-ce que je vous ai dit combien j'adore cette tradition espagnole ? Chaque fois que je commande une boisson quelque part, je me demande toujours la petite surprise qui vient avec, poisson, viande, jambon cru, tortilla ou crevettes, j'aime tout !

Thinking of Christmas in rainy Andalucia

We have a saying here in Andalucia which says aqui pasamos directamente del verano al invierno
we hop directly from summer to winter and every year it's true !
this morning I could see snow on the sierra....It's cold and rainy....
the perfect day to work on my new handmade Christmas cards, soon to be on my etsy shop.
I've just had 1 hour of good light in my room next to the roof terrace to take pictures and
give you a few sneak peeks of this new series.

Nous avons un dicton ici en Andalousie qui dit : aqui pasamos directamente del verano al invierno, ici on passe directement de l'été à l'hiver et chaque année c'est vrai !
ce matin, j'ai vu que la sierra était déjà enneigée..Il pleut et il fait froid....
un jour parfait pour travailler sur mes nouvelles cartes de Noël, bientôt dans ma boutique etsy.
J'ai profité d'1 heure de belle lumière dans ma chambre à côté de la terrasse sur le toit
pour prendre des photos et vous faire découvrir quelques modèles de cette nouvelle série.

For this series, I used Liberty prints and as usual every card is handmade, handcut, handwritten and hand glittered. Lots of work but pleasurable work.....I will soon post the other models. Hope you like them !

Pour cette série, j'ai utilisé des reproductions de tissus Liberty et comme toujours, chaque carte est réalisée entièrement à la main. Beaucoup de travail mais un labeur très agréable...Je posterai bientôt les autres modèles. J'espère qu'elles vous plaisent !

Inspiring cookbooks

As Christmas is slowly approaching, my brain is tuning to baking mood.
So I flip through my recipe books. I dream of cakes, candies roses, sugared pink petals....Decadent Desserts by Christina de Vogüé
is a favorite at the moment but I also want those !

Nous nous approchons tout doucement de Noël et mes neurones
sont déjà en mode pâtisserie. Je feuillette mes livres de recettes.
Je rêve de gâteaux, de roses confites, de pétales roses au sucre....
En ce moment, Decadent Desserts de Christina de Vogüé
est mon livre de desserts préféré mais je veux aussi ceux-là !

Un déjeuner de soleil en Italie (A sunny lunch in Italy) by the always inspiring Edda sounds like a wonderful initiation to Italian food. I've been following Edda's blog for some time now and her recipes are so evocative of sunny Italian food and healthy Mediterranean savors. It's the kind of food which really talks to me, so her book is definitely on my list for Christmas. I also like the fact that she cooks in a very very tiny kitchen (4 sqm) which makes her beautiful culinary adventure even more exciting !

Next on my list is the book of French Stylist Émilie Guelpa who had the brilliant idea of creating a collection of cookbooks titled "Cooking attitude". In her book "Je cuisine poétique" (I cook in a poetic way), you learn how to prepare delightful desserts and the recipes also focus on the ambiance and aesthetic. She created themes like the Marie-Antoinette one above or the origami theme among others which are all lovingly poetic.

At the moment both these books are in French but hopefully an English version will exist very soon.

Un déjeuner de soleil en Italie par Edda qui m'inspire toujours semble être une merveilleuse initiation à la cuisine italienne. Je suis le blog d'Edda depuis quelque temps et ses recettes sont tellement évocatives d'une table italienne ensoleillée pleine debonnes saveurs méditeranéennes. C'est une cuisine qui me parle et son livre est sur ma liste de Noël. J'aime aussi l'idée qu'elle a préparé toutes les recettes de son livre dans une minuscule cuisine de 4 m2. Je trouve son aventure culinaire encore plus merveilleuse !

L'autre livre de cuisine sur ma liste est celui de la styliste Émilie Guelpa qui a eu l'idée géniale de créer une collection de livres de cuisine intitulée "Cooking attitude". Dans son livre "Je cuisine poétique", elle nous apprend à préparer de délicieux desserts mais aussi à créer une ambiance poétique selon un thème choisi. Je trouve le thème Marie-Antoine délicat à souhait et aussi celui sur les origami. Bref, de la véritable poésie culinaire qui m'enchante !

My dear readers, initially I was about to post a pic I took this morning of the florist round the corner because I love the pink pots she displayed for All Saints day.
And then, this afternoon, I was going through my image files and stumbled on the pics I took of the Ruven Afanador's exhibition Mil Besos in Granada, a couple of years ago.
I just thought these two were delightfully spooky....
So here's my wishes to you for a Happy flamenca Halloween !

Mes chers lecteurs, initialement j'allais poster une photo de la fleuriste au coin de ma rue, prise ce matin parce que j'aime beaucoup les pots de couleur rose qu'elle a dans sa boutique pour la Toussaint.
Et puis, cet après-midi, en parcourant mes fichiers d'images, j'ai retrouvé ces photos prises lors de l'expo de Rúven Afanador à Grenade, en 2009.
Je les trouve sublimement belles à faire peur....

Life is good at Casa Amelia

La vida es buena en Casa Amelia.......

My friend Scarlett and her husband Chris recently opened their brand new venue at La Finca del Castillo Arabe, which is a rural retreat among orange and olive groves in the Lecrin valley. Scarlett whose enthusiasm always inspires me, has a lot of projects for their new venue. La Finca offers flexible accomodation from self-catering to full board and is also an organic farm. Scarlett who is a food lover plans has moved her catering business Casa Amelia to La Finca and plans to continue cooking classes and already started to organize food events at the finca. I missed the first one when I was in Paris but I went to her brunch last sunday and had a wonderful time. Even if the weather didn't cooperate - we had thunder and rain in the morning, a glass of cava (Spanish champagne) and the delightful and hearty food prepared by our hosts and a lively jazz band sufficed to make us feel happy.

Mon amie Scarlett et son mari Chris ont récemment inauguré leur nouvelle Finca del Castillo Arabe, qui est une retraite rurale en plein milieu des orangers et des oliviers dans la vallée de Lecrin. Scarlett dont l'enthousiasme m'inspire toujours, a plein d'idées et de projets pour le futur. Casa Amelia est un B&B et aussi une ferme écologique. Scarlett est une passionnée de cuisine et l'un de ses projets est d'organiser des cours et aussi des dîners ou déjeuners. J'ai raté sa soirée d'inauguration quand j'étais à Paris mais je suis allée au brunch dimanche dernier qui était très agréable. Même si le temps n'était pas trop coopératif - tonnerre et pluie le matin - le cava (le champagne espagnol) et toutes les bonnes choses préparées par nos hôtes, nous ont bien requinqués, avec en prime un petit orchestre de jazz très sympa.

Paris part III - Still in love with Merci

It's always a pleasure to visit the Merci store. I fell in love with the wooden table in the first picture even if the chairs are a tiny bit uncomfortable. The poetic decorative spoons of Caroline Swift were also a great discovery. And I was thrilled to learn afterwards that she has her studio in Barcelona ! The glass vases in shape of a bulb are my next favorite. Do you like them ?

C'est toujours un plaisir de faire un tour chez Merci. J'ai eu le coup de foudre pour cette table de bûcheron avec ses chaises assorties même si elles ne sont pas très confortables. Les cuillers poétiques de Caroline Swift étaient aussi une belle découverte. Et quelle bonne suprise d'apprendre qu'elle a son studio à Barcelone ! J'aime beaucoup aussi les vases en forme d'ampoule. Paris part II - Three cool places to eat, chat and relax

When Paris is sunny then you know everything's fine. Parisians are smiling, cab drivers are chatty and the gardens and terraces are all yours. Le Saut du Loup restaurant at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs has a very pleasant terrace among the gardens of the Louvre. My sweet cousin treated me for lunch with Natasha the lovely Canadian-British singer he contracted for the wedding. To be sincere, the food was just ok, apart from the desserts. As I told my cousin, a picnic on the grass would have been great too !
The day before, we gathered with a few friends at the vey cosy bar of Lutetia hotel. We all had our eyes fixed on the ceiling, wondering why the chandeliers were covered. "That's the wish of the manager" said one of the waiters when we asked him "He thinks it's cool".
Did you know that the Lutetia hotel had been built at the initiative of Mrs Boucicaut the owner of Le Bon Marché store in 1910 ? She wanted her customers to be comfortable whenever they came to Paris to do some shopping in the nearby store. This is definitely shopping in style indeed. I wonder how many days these customers stayed at the hotel....
The same day, I took Natasha to dine at Mamma Shelter which was buzzing as ever. Well, when our neighbor at the communal table told us Monica Belluci was dining in the other part of the restaurant, we understood why it was so frantic...And no, alas I didn't see her !

Quand il fait beau à Paris, tout va bien. Les Parisiens sont souriants, les chauffeurs de taxi sont bavards et les jardins et terrasses vous appartiennent. Le restaurant Le Saut du loup au Musée des Arts Décoratifs a une terrasse très agréable en plein milieu des jardins du Louvre. Mon cousin chéri nous y a invitées à déjeuner moi et Natasha, l'adorable chanteuse anglo-canadienne qu'il avait engagé pour le mariage. À dire vrai, les plats étaient plutôt limite hormis les desserts. Comme je le disais à mon cousin, un pique-nique aurait été super aussi !
Le jour d'avant, nous avons retrouvé des amis au bar très agréable du Lutetia. Nous avions les yeux rivés au plafond en nous demandant pourquoi les lustres étaient tous houssés. "C'est un petit caprice du directeur" nous a expliqué l'un des serveurs quand nous lui avons posé la question, "il trouve ça cool". Saviez-vous que le Lutetia a été construit à l'initiative de Mme Boucicaut, la propriétaire du Bon Marché en 1910 ? Tout simplement, elle voulait que ses clients puissent faire leurs courses de manière confortable lorsqu'ils venaient à Paris. Du shopping version supra luxe, en somme. Je me demande pendant combien de jours les clients séjournaient à l'hôtel.
Le même jour, j'ai emmené Natasha dîner au Mamma Shelter qui comme d'habitude était en pleine effervescence. Lorsque notre voisin à la table communale nous a dit que Monica Belluci était en train de dîner dans l'autre partie du restaurant, on a compris d'où venait cette effervescence....Mais hélas, je ne l'ai pas vue !

Paris part I - the wedding at the St Vincent de Paul chapel

When I arrived in Paris last friday, I found my darling cousin Touve very busy and a bit stressed. But that was normal. Since last summer, he's been writing some music for a wedding which took place last saturday at the St Vincent de Paul chapel in the sixth arrondissement, near Le Bon Marché. He was very excited at the idea of creating something special for a French-Colombian wedding. My cousin and I talk a lot on the phone and this project had been mentioned a lot in our past conversations. So much so, that Touve bought me a flight ticket to be there on his big day. You can imagine how thrilled I was. And also very touched because it was his own particular way of saying thank you. When I left Paris for southern Spain, some years ago, I introduced my cousin to one of my former customers, an event designer who presented him to the bride and groom. They both fell in love with Touve's music and commissioned him the music of their wedding religious ceremony. My cousin believes that in everything we do and receive, we must be thankful and give back. I love him for that. And I was so happy to be there and listen to his beautiful creation. I do hope he'll send me a recording so that I can share with you !

Quand je suis arrivée à Paris, vendredi dernier, Touve, mon cousin chéri était très occupé et un peu stressé. Mais rien d'étonnant à ça. Depuis l'été dernier, il a composé une musique pour un mariage qui a eu lieu samedi dernier à la chapelle St Vincent de Paul dans le 6ème arrondissement près du Bon Marché. L'idée de créer une composition spéciale pour un mariage franco-colombien le passionnait énormément. Mon cousin et moi passons beaucoup de temps au téléphone et ce projet était devenu entre nous le sujet du moment. À tel point que mon cousin m'a acheté un billet d'avion pour que je puisse être là pour son grand jour. Évidemment, j'étais aux anges. Et aussi très touchée parce que c'était sa façon à lui de dire merci. Il y a quelques années quand j'ai quitté Paris pour le sud de l'Espagne j'ai présenté mon cousin à un de mes anciens clients, un organisateur d'évènement qui l'a présenté aux futurs mariés. Ils sont tombés amoureux de la musique de Touve et lui ont commandé la musique de leur cérémonie religieuse. Mon cousin croit fermement que pour toutes les choses que l'on fait et reçoit, on doit être reconnaissant et rendre la pareille. Je l'aime pour ça. Et j'étais si contente d'être là et d'écouter sa magnifique composition. J'espère qu'il m'enverra un enregistrement pour la partager avec vous !

Back from Paris....

I came back on thursday night completely knackered wishing I would look as fresh and radiant as Brigitte Bardot on this Lancel shop window but...boo...not at all...
Rather, on my last day I felt like this guy pushing his pallet at the Opéra Garnier. Instead, I was lugging a heavy suitcase up and down the metro....
And now, I just feel like snoozing so this is just a quick hello post.

J'avais plutôt l'impression d'être comme ce type en train de pousser péniblement sa palette à l'Opéra Garnier. Sauf que moi, c'est ma valise qui pesait une tonne que je me suis trimballée dans le métro...

Where was I ?

Time escaped me !
Le temps m'a échappé !

Even here in Andalusia where time is somewhat elastic, I suddenly felt overwhelmed, too busy and not finding time to blog. It does happen, doesn't it ?

Still, life has been good these past few days. I've posted these collages to illustrate in a nutshell the happy hours which were shared with friends lately. A very simpatico sardines barbecue at my friend Gym's, under her Morroccan tent on her roof terrace. Meeting her lovely Irish neighbor whom I already met virtually through the blog ! A few days before, I also met three very nice people from Zimbabwe who are spending a sabbatical year travelling in Europe. How cool is that ? They organized an African meal last saturday and it was lots of fun and a great culinary discovery for me.
I also made some new cards for my etsy shop.
I got deeply immersed into Almodovar's script of La Flor de mi secreto. Some day, I must write a post about his touching words on his mother and the feeling of solitude. Have you seen the movie?

Même ici en Andalousie où le temps est élastique, je me suis sentie soudain débordée, trop occupée et pas assez de temps pour le blog. Et oui, ça arrive bien sûr....
Malgré tout, on a eu de bons moments ces derniers jours. J'ai voulu capturer ces quelques moments de joie avec ces collages. Un barbecue très sympa chez mon amie Gym, sous sa tente marocaine plantée sur la terrasse sur le toit. La rencontre de sa voisine irlandaise que je connaissais déjà virtuellement par le blog ! La rencontre aussi, quelques jours auparavant de trois personnes très sympas originaires du Zimbabwe qui passent une année sabbatique et voyagent dans toute l'Europe. Cool projet ! Ils ont organisé un repas africain samedi dernier qui m'a fait découvrir de nouvelles alliances de saveurs.
J'ai aussi fait de nouvelles cartes pour ma boutique etsy.
Je me suis plongée avec délice dans la lecture du scénario de La flor de mi secreto d'Almodovar. Un jour, il faudra que j'écrive un post sur ses confidences sur sa mère et le sentiment de solitude. Avez-vous vu le film ?

Ikea nearly makes me want to live in the kitchen

Honestly I think I could eat, pray and love in this space created by Ikea.
The virgo in me likes the orderly lines of baskets, bottles and jars.
There is never such an abundance of fruit in my own kitchen
but isn't a great way to add some color ?

Franchement, je crois que je pourrais manger, prier et aimer dans cet espace créé par Ikea.
Mon côté vierge apprécie les rangs bien ordonnés de paniers, bouteilles et conserves.
Il n'y a jamais une telle abondance de fruits dans ma cuisine
mais quelle bonne idée pour apporter de la couleur !

...and now I show you my kitchen....much much smaller.
and with barely no fruit in sight as it's all kept in the fridge.
Mmmm...I've got to think about this basket idea !

....et maintenant voici ma cuisine....bien plus petite.
et pratiquement sans trace de fruit parce qu'ils sont tous au frigo.
Bon...je crois que je vais cogiter sur l'idée des paniers !

Today monday as a new week begins I want to share with you one of my favorite places where you can easily forget it's monday.

Aujourd'hui lundi alors qu'une nouvelle semaine commence, je veux partager avec vous l'un de mes endroits préférés où l'on peut facilement oublier qu'on est lundi.

The café El Puente is right by the bridge at the exit of Durcal. We went for drinks and tapas on sunday, before lunch and spent a very enjoyable hour filled with joyful jazz, blue sky and contagious good humour.
Can you believe we still have a semi-summer weather here ?
I send you sunshine from Andalucia and wish you a happy monday !

Le café El Puente est juste après le pont à la sortie de Durcal. Dimanche, nous nous y sommes arrêtés pour boire un verre avec des tapas avant le déjeuner. Nous avons passé une heure très agréable remplie de jazz très gai, de ciel bleu et de bonne humeur contagieuse.

Weaving esparto grass

Some months ago a very enthusiastic me started to learn how
to weave esparto grass. Dreaming of the future baskets I could make.
Oh dear I think I've been over optimistic !

Il y a quelques mois, avec beaucoup d'enthousiasme, j'ai voulu suivre des
cours d'apprentissage à l'esparto ou alfafa. Tout en rêvant des futurs paniers
et autres objets que j'allais réaliser.
Pfff....je crois que j'étais trop optimiste !

Do you see this little attempt here above ? This is what I managed to achieve in 2 hours....This craft requires a LOT of patience. I've given up for now but who knows, may be in a few years, I can show you the basket I made ! No seriously, I'd love to give it another try because I am the first one to say, we must keep the handmade and craftsmanship alive. We were only 3 persons following this class and our teacher was an elderly man from one of the villages nearby. I find it sad that this craft is being abandoned progressively as esparto grass is a wonderful product to use around your home. Don't you think ?

Vous voyez ce petit bout d'essai ci-dessus ? Eh bien c'est ce que j'ai réussi à faire en 2 heures....Cet artisanat nécessite BEAUCOUP de patience. Pour le moment j'ai jeté l'éponge mais qui sait, peut-être dans quelques années je vous montrerai le panier que j'aurai réussi à faire ! Non, sérieusement, j'aimerais faire une autre tentative parce que je suis la première à revendiquer la continuité et la survie du fait main et de l'artisanat. Nous étions seulement 3 personnes à suivre ce cours et notre instructeur était un homme âgé d'un des villages voisins. Je trouve triste que cet artisanat soit relégué petit à petit aux oubliettes parce que l'esparto est vraiment un produit merveilleux à utiliser dans la maison. Vous ne trouvez pas ?

A little patch of heaven

It is a long time I wanted to show you the lovely house of my friends Rosabel and Rafa. They fell in love with a small village house which they reformed completely. Lots of love, work and patience had been poured to transform the tiny village house into what is now a very chic patch of heaven. Honestly doesn't it make you feel like having your own little patch of heaven here in Andalusia ?

Cela fait longtemps que je voulais vous montrer la ravissante maison de mes amis Rosabel et Rafa. Ils sont tombés amoureux d'une petite maison de village qu'ils ont complètement transformée. Il a fallu beaucoup d'amour, de labeur et de patience pour métamorphoser la petite maison de village en un petit paradis très chic. Franchement, ça ne vous donne pas envie d'avoir votre petit coin de paradis ici en Andalousie ?

The works......

Ouf....the roof terrace looks a like a mess with all these packs of cement. And I'm quite glad
because by tomorrow I'll finish all the painting and the flooring and wiring.
I'm joking of course ! I wish I could do all that though.
But still, I made some new collages for my etsy shop, yesterday. No macaroon alas, but
always a big fat iconic hamburger ! You can read more about my collages and my little project
on my other blog here. (sorry the pics are not terrific, I still don't know how
to make good pics with white paper).

Pouf...la terrasse sur le toit est un peu bordélique avec tous ces sacs de ciment. Mais je suis
contente parce que demain, j'attaque le sol, je finis la peinture et l'électricité.
Je plaisante bien sûr ! J'aimerais bien pouvoir le faire pourtant.
Mais quand même, je me suis attaquée à de nouveaux collages ce dimanche à mettre
sur ma boutique etsy. Pas de macaron hélas, toujours ce bon vieux hamburger iconique !

Working girl

This week end I'll play the working girl. You see I'm thrilled because the space next to the roof terrace is undergoing a beauty treatment and lots of cement and sand are needed. And a bit of help.
So this morning I put on my best working suit found in a fleamarket on the coast which says it all : "ladies work wear".....So let's get on with it !

Ce week end, je me transforme en gros bras. Je suis plus que ravie parce que l'espace attenant à la terrasse sur le toit va avoir droit un lifting spectaculaire et pour le moment, il faut du ciment et du sable à gogo. Et un peu d'aide, si possible.
Donc ce matin, j'ai enfilé ma belle combi de travail dénichée dans un marché aux puces sur la côte qui dit bien "ladies work wear" (vêtements de travail pour femmes).....Alors c'est parti !

May I tempt you with sun dried tomatoes ?

For the first time last summer, I let tomatoes dry in the sun on our roof terrace and I was so thrilled by the result that I can't wait for next summer to repeat the experience. It is a tradition here in Andalucia to dry tomatoes or red peppers just like in Italy or other Mediterranean countries. You use a very small portion to add flavor to a soup or a stew as it is very concentrated. Monchéri had seen the women in his family do it in summer when he was a child and this year we wanted to try it. If you feel like experiencing it, the procedure is very simple. We used pear tomatoes which we cut in halves and displayed on a grid placed above a wooden vegetable box. We sprinkled a bit of salt on the tomatoes and put a bit of thyme too. As it was very hot, our tomatoes dried in 4/5 days. Also, you must put them indoors at night and cover them with a cheesecloth to protect them.

I loved going upstairs every morning to uncover my little babies. The room smelled of sugar and thyme.....delightful....
So, have I tempted you to make your own sun dried tomatoes ?

edit to post : I forgot to say, I also eat them as a snack....Delicious with jamon serrano !

Pour la première fois, l'été dernier, j'ai fait sécher des tomates au soleil sur la terrasse sur le toit et j'étais ravie du résultat. Vivement l'été prochain car j'ai très envie de recommencer. Ici en Andalousie, c'est une tradition de sécher les tomates ou les poivrons rouges, comme en Italie ou dans d'autres pays méditerranéens. On utilise seulement une petite portion pour parfumer un potage ou un plat mijoté car le goût est très concentré. Lorsqu'il était gamin, Monchéri a vu les femmes de sa famille pratiquer cette tradition et cette année, on a eu envie d'essayer. Si cela vous tente, la procédure est très simple. Nous avons utilisé des tomates allongées qui sont ensuite coupées en deux et placées sur une clayette au-dessus d'une cagette à légumes. Une petite pincée de sel et quelques brins de thym et voilà. Comme il faisait très chaud, les tomates ont séché en 4/5 jours. Il faut aussi les rentrer à l'intérieur le soir et les recouvrir avec une fine toile (genre toile à fromage) pour les protéger.

C'était un vrai plaisir de monter tous les matins pour découvrir mes petits bébés. La pièce sentait le sucre et le thym....un délice....
Alors, êtes-vous tenté maintenant de faire vos propres tomates séchées ?

ps : j'ai oublié de dire que je les grignote aussi à l'apéro...délicieux avec du jamon serrano !

Welcome to my petit atelier

My petit atelier is not entirely tidy, not entirely finished either but it doesn't matter. I feel happy in it. This is where I make the cards and the aprons. Where I dream. A lot. When the weather is nice just like today or yesterday and hopefully tomorrow, I work on the table in the patio. This is how my sunday was spent, finishing a couple of aprons by hand, because once again my sewing machine had a nervous crisis. And then by 6 o'clock, I made a chocolate cake to recharge batteries. So Monchéri and I had a very late tea or early chocolate dinner while listening to the very cool African blues of Lobi Traore.

Mon petit atelier n'est pas totalement rangé, ni totalement fini mais ce n'est pas important. Je m'y sens bien. C'est là où je fais mes cartes et les tabliers. Là où je rêvasse. Beaucoup. Quand il fait chaud comme aujourd'hui ou hier et demain j'espère, je travaille dans le patio. C'est comme ça que j'ai passé mon dimanche, à finir deux tabliers à la main parce qu'une fois de plus, ma machine à coudre a piqué sa crise. Et puis vers 18h, j'ai fait un gâteau au chocolat histoire de recharger les batteries. Donc, on a pris un thé très tardif ou plutôt un dîner tout chocolat très tôt tout en vibrant sur le blues très cool de Lobi Traore.

Tea at Gym's

.....so nice to be back home in Andalucia and be invited for tea at my friend Gym's !
......quel plaisir de retrouver l'Andalousie et d'être invitée pour le thé chez mon amie Gym !

Gym just got back from a one-month stay in England, where apart from painting and working like mad on a wedding project, she managed to find some treasures in fleamarkets. So of course, I had to shoot her new adorable chairs. I especially love the one in the first pic....So cute !

Gym vient juste de rentrer d'Angleterre où elle a passé un mois à peindre et bosser comme une dingue pour la déco d'un mariage. Elle a tout de même pu s'adonner au plaisir de la brocante et découvrir des trésors. Évidemment, je n'ai pas pu m'empêcher de shooter ses nouvelles chaises. Je craque surtout sur celle de la première photo....Trop mignonne !

The Vintage Mafia Party in London

at last, here are the pics of the vintage party I went to last saturday with my friend Carole......
et voici enfin les photos de la soirée vintage où je suis allée samedi dernier avec mon amie Carole...

The party was held at The Fox pub in Shoreditch and it was a bit hectic for me because in fact I just arrived in the afternoon from Malaga, went to the B&B first and then had to run there with my clothes in a bag. I had told Carole, don't worry I'll be there at 7.30pm and got there half hour late. It was so nice to meet up again. Carole is the delightful French girl behind Mademoiselle Poirot and we had our first encounter last june in London. She laughed when she saw me arrived with my big bag. The girls at the reception gave me a bit of a skeptical look because I was in boots and jeans and totally non vintage but I showed them my black dress tucked in my bag so I was finally given a smile of admission. Carole played up the part entirely and was wearing a pretty flare black dress with a fitted jacket. After I finished changing, we stood at the bar sipping a cocktail graciously offered by the Vintage Mafia. I think we were both impressed by the general allure, the clothing and especially the hairdo of some elegant ladies. The evening went smoothly and was very pleasant with some fun ukulele performing by the lovely Miss Gemma and the amazing Marjorie Belles trio. Yes, we danced some boogie boogie !
I wish I could have taken more pics but I'm not very good at night pics and also it's a shame because I don't have a photo of Carole. I took pics of her with her own camera and she took this one of me with my own camera. Now the only thing we both lamented was not having time to go to Ladurée again together. Next time !

La soirée se passait au pub The Fox à Shoreditch et c'était un peu cahotique pour moi parce qu'en fait j'ai débarqué dans l'après-midi à Londres de Malaga. Le temps de poser mes affaires au B&B, j'ai dû courir pour arriver au pub où la pauvre Carole m'attendait depuis une demi-heure. C'était vraiment très sympa de se retrouver. Carole est la délicieuse Mademoiselle Poirot avec qui j'ai fait connaissance, en vrai, en juin dernier à Londres. Elle a rigolé en me voyant débarquer avec mon baluchon. Et les filles de la réception détaillaient mes bottes et mon jean d'un air sceptique jusqu'à ce que je leur montre ma robe noire fourrée dans mon sac. Là j'ai eu droit à un sourire de gratification. Carole avait joué la carte vintage de la tête aux pieds avec une jolie robe noire évasée et une veste en tweed bien cintrée. Après m'être changée, nous sommes restées au bar à siroter un cocktail gracieusement offert par The Vintage Mafia. Je crois que nous étions toutes les deux assez impressionnées par l'allure en général, les tenues et surtout les coiffures de certaines élégantes. La soirée était très agréable avec un petit moment savoureux de ukelele par Miss Gemma et le trio très emballant des Marjorie Belles. Et oui, on aussi dansé du boogie boogie !
J'aurais bien aimé prendre plus de photos mais il faut dire que je ne suis pas très douée pour les photos de nuit. En plus, c'est dommage mais je n'ai pas de photo de Carole. J'ai pris des photos d'elle avec son appareil et elle a pris une photo de moi avec mon appareil. Et aussi, ce qu'on regrette toutes les deux, c'est de ne pas avoir eu le temps d'aller chez Ladurée. La prochaine fois !

No I didn't disappear in the Thames !

I just came back very late last night, completely knackered and needed time today to rest and sort out the pics. I know you're waiting for the vintage party pics but let me show you first the images I managed to take at the Top Drawer design trade show on sunday. After all, this was the main reason of my week end in London. To visit the trade show and make myself an idea if I will exhibit next year in september.

Je suis simplement rentrée très tard hier soir, complètement à plat et aujourd'hui, j'avais vraiment besoin d'un bon repos et de temps pour trier mes photos. Je sais que vous attendez les photos de la vintage party mais d'abord, pour rester dans le sérieux et le travail, je vous montre les quelques photos que j'ai réussi à prendre à Top Drawer, dimanche dernier. Après tout, la visite du salon était la principale raison de mon week end à Londres et aussi pour me faire une idée si oui ou non y exposer l'année prochaine en septembre.

My first impression was that compared to the tentacular Maison & Objet in Paris, it is quite a small trade show which is nice. On arrival, I was just a bit concerned by the nearly empty alleys, but then I was there during the last 2 hours before closing time so surely it had been busier earlier.

There were a lot of interesting things to see especially in the stationary and greetings area. I would have loved to take more pics but honestly it's not really allowed and I totally understand it. So the images you see here are of the public spaces which show the trends of autumn/winter 2011 : British Street Style, Crafty Christmas, Utilitarian and Midnight Garden. Plus the great stand of Wild and Wolf Ltd - love the public phone and the Penguin classic thermos bottle ! And the very pretty stand of Thornback & Peel, where I had the ok to take a pic.

As I said I saw lots of pretty things but at the same time, I was a bit puzzled because I expected much more innovation and confess a bit of frustration on that side. If you went there I would love to hear your feedback !

Ma première impression est que, comparé au tentaculaire Maison & Objet, à Paris, Top Drawer est un petit salon ce qui est plutôt sympa. En arrivant, j'étais un peu inquiète de voir les allées presque vides mais il faut dire que j'ai visité le salon juste de 16h à 18h avant sa fermeture donc sûrement, il y avait plus de mouvement auparavant.

Il y avait beaucoup de choses intéressantes à voir surtout dans la section papeterie et cartes de vœux. J'aurais adoré prendre plus de photos mais ce n'est pas vraiment autorisé, ce que je comprends tout à fait. Donc les images postées ici sont les espaces publics qui illustrent les tendances automne/hiver 2011 : British Street Style, Noël artisanal, Utilitaire et Jardin de minuit. Plus le super stand de Wild and Wolf Ltd - j'adore les téléphones publics vintage et le thermos version classique Penguin ! Et le très joli stand de Thornback & Peel qui m'ont autorisé à prendre une photo.

Comme j'ai dit, j'ai vu beaucoup de jolies choses mais en même temps, j'étais un peu étonnée parce que franchement je m'attendais à beaucoup plus d'innovation et j'avoue avoir été un peu frustrée de ce côté-là. Si vous avez visité ce salon, j'aimerais beaucoup avoir votre avis !

Sweet vanities......

There is an unoccupied room in the house which was semi guest room, semi storage and this summer I started to hang a bag here, place some shoes there, align my collection of perfume flasks. And this is how, my dressing room was born under the amused eye of Monchéri who agreed that some guests might still want to sleep in this room surrounded by bags in a girly environment. I plan to adorn the blue furniture. More gold may be....Something baroque....And put ribbons everywhere....Ouf, yes I guess I'm having my crazy pink moment !
What's funny is that I'm not really a fashionista. I don't have this huge crave on labels. First I can't afford it and second I lose interest. But, I do enjoy my clothes and dressing up. Although I realize, in spite of my ever expanding wardrobe, I always end up wearing the same clothes. So actually, decluttering sounds the best next thing to do. These days, I am more and more attracted to vintage fashion. Well, I was already when I was younger. One of my favorite vintage shops on Internet is Couture Allure which I discovered thanks to Vicki, where I find my lovely blue dress. I also enjoy browsing on Etsy in the vintage section. And talking about vintage, this summer I've been following the blog of the radiant Fleur de Guerre (what a brilliant name!). I just love her dungarees here. Fleur is organizing a vintage party in London, this saturday with her gang, the Vintage Mafia. And I'm so thrilled to go ! Well, actually I'm going to London this week end to visit Top Drawer but I thought a little bit of partying wouldn't hurt. You can read more about The Vintage Mafia party here. Il y a une pièce inoccupée dans la maison qui fait office de chambre d'amis, pièce de rangement et cet été j'ai commencé à accrocher un sac par-ci, un autre par-là, ranger mes chaussures, aligner ma collection de flacons de parfum. Du jour au lendemain, mon dressing est né sous l'oeil amusé de Monchéri qui reconnaît que certaines personnes puissent trouver agréable de dormir dans une chambre, entouré de sacs à main dans un environnement girly. Je vais décorer les meubles bleus. Plus de doré sans doute...Quelque chose de baroque...Et mettre des rubans partout....Ouf, je suis dans ma phase rose sucré à fond ! Ce qui est drôle c'est que je ne suis pas vraiment une fashionista. Je n'ai pas la folie des marques. D'abord, je n'ai pas les moyens et ensuite ça ne m'intéresse pas plus que ça. Mais, j'adore mes fringues et j'adore m'habiller. Ceci dit, je me rends bien compte que malgré mes portants bien chargés, je mets presque toujours les mêmes tenues. Conséquence, un allègement s'impose. Depuis un certain temps, la mode vintage me plaît de plus en plus. En fait, je m'habillais déjà vintage quand j'étais plus jeune. L'une de mes boutiques vintage préférées sur Internet est Couture allure. J'ai découvert cette adresse grâce à Vicki et c'est là que j'ai trouvé ma jolie robe bleue. J'aime bien aussi la section vintage sur Etsy. En parlant de vintage, cet été j'ai découvert le blog de Fleur de Guerre (super nom !). J'adore la combinaison pantalon qu'elle porte ici. Fleur organise une soirée vintage samedi prochain à Londres avec son gang The Vintage Mafia. Et j'y vais ! Bon en fait, si je vais à Londres ce week end, c'est surtout pour aller visiter Top Drawer mais une petite fiesta, ça se refuse pas, n'est-ce pas ? The last summer paella

Do these images say it all ? This was our day yesterday at my friend's Pilar who prepared a delicious paella while we chatted with friends. And while the adults were talking about their future projects, the kids made every effort to impress us, playing like intrepid trapeze artists. By the way, do you know that I never made a paella since I live here in Andalucia ? Well, it's about time, I learn ! And it's also so quick to prepare and such a great dish.
I can't help sighing while looking at these photos. I realize it's so rare to share perfect harmonious moments with friends. Muchas gracias Pilar for this wonderful day and having us from 2.30pm until 11pm ! We are now ready for the first autumn paella !

Je pense que ces images illustrent bien notre journée d'hier. Nous étions chez mon amie Pilar qui préparait une paella pendant qu'on papotait entre amis. Pendant que les adultes parlaient de leurs futurs projets, les enfants tentaient de nous impressionner avec des numéros de trapèze. Au fait, savez-vous que depuis que j'habite en Andalousie, je n'ai jamais fait de paella ? Il serait grand temps de s'y mettre ! En plus, c'est un plat tellement rapide à préparer et tellement bon aussi.
Je soupire un peu en regardant ces photos parce que je me rends compte que c'est si rare de vivre des moments parfaitement harmonieux avec des amis. Muchas gracias Pilar pour cette merveilleuse journée et nous avoir gardés de 14h30 à 23h ! Nous sommes maintenant prêts pour la première paella d'automne !

Farewell my beautiful summer and hello september !
Summer, I miss you already but we can't keep you forever, can we ?

Adieu mon bel été et bonjour septembre !
Tu me manques déjà, l'été mais on ne peut pas te garder pour toujours, n'est-ce pas ?

I took these pics yesterday on my way to visit some friends. I stopped at the bodega Señioro de Nevada just to see how the grapes are growing. How I love these vineyards !...And the palm trees transport me to a further south. I could have stayed all afternoon really. There are also a café and a restaurant on the premises which I must try and show you one day.

It's funny how every year, we just don't expect summer to be over. Are you too a bit nostalgic that summer is ending or rather excited at the thought of entering the season of the months in R ? That said, I'm very happy to resume the blog and meet you again, my dear friends. Thank you for not having forgotten me ! And hasta mañana !

J'ai pris ces photos hier en chemin pour aller visiter des amis. Je me suis arrêtée à la bodega Señioro de Nevada juste histoire de voir le raisin pousser. Que c'est beau ces vignobles ! My darling readers and blogging friends, I'm so sorry to have abandoned you
like that, and no I wasn't even gone glamping near Jerez de la Frontera !
I've been staying here all along but what with the heat, the dulce farniente.....
my energy grew dimmer and dimmer.
Everyday, I thought, gee, I must get on the blog and shamefully procrastinated.
This is real typical nonchalant Andalusian summer laziness......

Mes lecteurs chéris et amis bloggers, je suis vraiment désolée de vous avoir
laissé en plan comme ça, sans préavis ni rien du tout...et non, en plus je ne suis même pas
partie faire du glamping à côté de Jerez de la Frontera !
Non, j'étais là mais vaincue par la chaleur, le doux farniente.....
mon énergie baissait de jour en jour.
Je me disais pourtant, allez mets toi sur ton blog et honteusement je remettais au lendemain.
C'est ça, la paresse andalouse nonchalante typique.

This is my favorite time of the year and especially here in Andalusia. I even feel like a tourist on holiday. It's so good to be able to take the time to chat with people in the street or at the market. And to see things with new eyes too.
During the day, we are in very slow mode, slow cooking or no cooking at all, slow reading, slow walking, slow barbecues, slow dancing on Bob Dylan (yes, it's possible)....At night, the villages in the valley become alive with outdoor concerts. And if we stay at home, we spend the night on the roof terrace. This is my most precious summer gift, all these nights sleeping under the glittering stars. Sometimes, I just can't sleep because I wish to keep my eyes opened until the very last moment but then, of course I fall asleep. The morning sun always takes me by surprise, until I realize a bright new day is smiling at me.
Now, in case you think, oh but this Lala is having a very lazy summer, I reassure you, I've been lazy but nevertheless managed to produce a range of pretty Christmas cards to show to some shops. And another line of aprons for the holiday too. Yes, it's funny to prepare Christmas in the middle of summer and in the heat. Funny, especially with sticky fingers. Speaking of the holiday, did you know that Harrod's presented its Christmas range earlier this month ? Madness, non ? Well, according to its marketing manager, tourists visiting London in summer are very pleased to buy Christmas gifts in advance.

Oh dear....I really find this consumerism quite obscene in a way.
Can't we just let summer be, just let it be ?

It is so short already. And yet, I must confess, I'm quite thrilled to see september coming. Not only because it's my birthday month but also because as we say in French, it's la rentrée (comeback). It's la rentrée for lots of things, and here are a few things, I'm waiting for impatiently this coming september : the new novel of one of my favorite writers, L'équation africaine (The African Equation) by Yasmina Khadra and Pedro Almodovar's new movie, The skin I live in, which reminds me a bit of this old French movie Eyes without a face. It will be featured early september, here in Spain.
I also discovered this fabulous vocal jazz band called O Sister, founded by a brother and sister from Sevilla....and I love them ! They will be performing in Granada in september so hopefully we'll go and see them.
I'm also looking forward to go back to London in september to visit Top Drawer. Another excuse to go to Ladurée !

C'est mon époque préférée de l'année surtout ici en Andalousie. Je me sens même comme une touriste en vacances. C'est si bon de pouvoir prendre le temps de converser avec des gens dans la rue ou au marché. Et aussi de voir ce qui nous entoure avec un regard neuf.
Durant la journée, on est en en mode trēs lent, on cuisine lentement ou pas du tout, on lit lentement, on se balade lentement, on fait traîner les barbecues, on s'amuse à danser mollement sur Bob Dylan (oui c'est possible)...Le soir, les villages de la vallée ont un sursaut d'énergie avec les concerts en plein air. Et si on reste à la maison, on passe la nuit sur la terrasse sur le toit. Ça, c'est le plus beau cadeau que l'été nous fait, toutes ces nuits à dormir sous les étoiles. J'essaie toujours de garder les yeux ouverts le plus longtemps possible pour voir encore une fois ce beau ciel étoilé au-dessus de ma tête. Fatalement, bien sûr je finis par m'endormir et le soleil du matin me réveille toujours par surprise. J'ai besoin de quelques minutes pour m'apercevoir qu'une belle journée toute neuve me tend les bras.

Bon, avec tout ça, je suis sûre que vous devez penser, bon sang cette Lala, elle se la coule vraiment douce en été. Et bien, pas tant que ça puisque j'ai quand même réussi à faire une petite collection de cartes de voeux toutes mignonnes pour montrer à des boutiques. Et aussi une autre ligne de tabliers pour Noël. Oui, c'est marrant de préparer Noël en plein été et sous la canicule. Surtout avec des doigts tout poisseux. En parlant de Noël, savez-vous que Harrod's a présenté ses collections de Noël en avant-premiēre au début de ce mois ? C'est fou non ? Dixit, le directeur du marketing, les touristes qui visitent Londres en été sont trēs heureux de pouvoir par la même occasion faire leurs achats de Noël.

Franchement, je trouve ce consumérisme à tout va carrément obscēne.
On peut pas laisser les gens simplement profiter de l'été ? Let it be, quoi....
L'été est déjà si court.
Et pourtant, j'avoue que je suis assez excitée de voir arriver en septembre. Pas seulement parce que c'est le mois de mon anniversaire mais aussi parce que c'est la rentrée dans tous les sens du terme. Alors, côté bouquin, j'ai hâte de lire le nouveau Yasmina Khadra, L'équation africaine (j'adore cet auteur), côté cinéma, je suis trēs impatiente de voir le dernier Almodovar, La peau que j'habite et dont l'histoire me rappelle un peu ce vieux film de George Franju, Les yeux sans visage. Il sort début septembre en Espagne, je crois.
Côté musique, j'ai découvert un groupe de jazz vocal trēs chouette qui s'appelle O Sister, créé par un frēre et sa soeur, originaires de Séville et je les adore. Ils donneront une représentation à Grenade en septembre et j'espēre qu'on ira les voir.
Je retourne aussi à Londres en septembre pour visiter le salon Top Drawer. Encore une bonne excuse pour aller chez Ladurée tous azimuts !

Glamping in Cortes de la Frontera at Hoopoe Yurt Hotel

Monchéri enjoys camping but me I prefer glamping and
I was so excited to discover this amazing yurt hotel near Jerez,
tucked in a beautiful grove of olive and cork trees,
totally ecological and greatly decorated.
Yes, this is no doubt my future destination
in Spain....glamping at its best !

et j'ai découvert avec un grand bonheur ce yourte-hôtel près de Jerez,
au milieu des oliviers et des chênes-liège,
totalement écologique avec une déco superbe.
Sans hésitation, c'est ma future destination en Espagne...
Du glamping dans toute sa splendeur !

la soupe au poivron rouge, le must de l'été !

I was a bit skeptical at first but trust me, this is really a great recipe
for hot summer days.
You just need a few red peppers, 2 tomatoes + 2 potatoes,
and the result is a wonderful refreshing summer soup.
Bon appétit !

Au début j'étais un peu sceptique, mais c'est vraiment une super recette
pour les chaudes journées d'été.
Il faut juste quelques poivrons rouges, 2 tomates + 2 pommes de terre
et le résultat est une soupe d'été merveilleusement rafraîchissante.
Bon appétit !

Recipe for 6 persons

Ingredients :

1 kg of red peppers (approx 6 or 7)
2 tomatoes
2 potatoes
1 teaspoon of sugar
coriander
olive oil
a few broad beans (optional)
salt, pepper

Grill the red peppers in the oven during 30/45 mn. Peel them. Cook the potatoes.
Put the tomatoes in boiling water for 2 mn to peel them. Mix all ingredients with
sugar and 2 glasses of the potatoes cooking water. Add salt and pepper.
If you add some broad beans, boil them to peel them.
Serve with a dash of olive oil and coriander sliced very thinly.

My little tip :
the recipe doesn't specify it but this soup is better chilled. As it thickened
while staying in the fridge, I added a few ice cubes to make it lighter,
just like with gazpacho.

Recette pour 6 personnes

Ingrédients
1 kg de poivrons rouges
2 tomates
2 pommes de terre
1 cuil à café de sucre
coriandre
huile d'olive
quelques fèves (facultatif)
sel, poivre

Faites cuire les poivrons au four 30 à 45 mn. Ôtez la peau. Faites cuire
les pommes de terre à l'eau. Plongez les tomates 2 mn dans l'eau bouillante
pour enlever la peau. Mixez le tout avec le sucre et 2 verres d'eau de cuisson
des pommes de terre.
Salez, poivrez.
Si vous ajoutez des fèves, ébouilantez-les pour retirer la peau.
Servez avec un filet d'huile d'olive et la coriandre hachée fin.

Mon petit truc :

La recette ne le précise pas, mais cette soupe est
bien meilleure, très froide. Comme elle a tendance à épaissir,
lorsqu'elle reste au frigo, à cause de la fécule des pommes de terre,
je rajoute des glaçons pour la détendre, comme pour le gazpacho.
