The beautiful little nothings of Andalusia
This morning as I was having breakfast on the roof terrace, I smiled at the day, at the whole view surrounding me, the tiled roofs of the neighboring houses and their crooked TV antennas, the blue sky, the pale green hills and olive groves, the tiny village of Niguelas which can be barely be seen at this hour at the morning. Every year, when the warm weather comes, I sense the sweet dangerosity of living in Andalusia. It would be so easy to take one day off, then two and well.... just go with the flow, adopting a very slow mode.
When I got here, it was like rediscovering the little flower paradise I left behind me in Provence as a child, yet with a more exotic touch. The scent of jasmine at night, the fragrance of orange blossoms, the exuberance of perfumed mimosa and the sight of pink bougainvillea...these are the beautiful little nothings Andalusia offered me.
And I also love the distinctive smells of food slowly cooking. If you ever wander through the village streets during lunch hour, you can tell, some fish is being grilled somewhere or someone left the onions too long on the fire. Most times, when I come back from the market on Wednesdays, there's a sweet smell of red grilled pepper in the air.
Today, I was tempted to prepare some for lunch even though the preparation took time but then the day started slowly so why not stopping the clock a bit.
I had lunch at 3.30pm....mmm...this is even a bit late according to Andalusian standards ! Let's say, today I was in a contemplative mood, enjoying the slow cooking and photographing it and watching the pink bougainvillea slowly growing. Do you think flowers enjoy music ? Monchéri encourages me to sing to the flowers or play some Mozart !
