Our Easter picnic

What I like most in a picnic is the idea of filling up a basket with good things to eat. And then
sharing it with friends. We were lucky enough to have some sunshine yesterday so in the
end, we nearly had an Easter picnic except that it took place mainly indoors as the wind forced
us to change our plans. But never mind, we nibbled some cheese and salchichon in our friends'
garden and went back inside the house to carry on our lunch picnic. Here the tradition at Easter,
is to have a special bread, called hornazo which is a bread made with olive oil in a round shape,
with an egg nestled in its centre. The egg is baked at the same time than the bread.

Our friend Charlie comes a long generation of bakers and of course, for him there is no Easter
without hornazos. As we were comfortably seated by the fireplace in the kitchen, sipping
a glass of red wine, he went into the pantry and came back with a lovely red-checked bag,
containing the hornazos. They were so pretty, almost looking like a basket with a little
handle and the egg inside. I had to take some outside and photograph them to make them immortal.

In the afternoon, we went for a long walk in the surrounding countryside.
It was so refreshing to see the vivid colours of the grass and the olive trees.
Some people were picking up wild fennel in a field. I spotted some wild
white irises soon to bloom. It won't take long now for the countryside to be
in full spring mode. But just now, clouds are gathering up again.
No chance for another picnic today !

Have a very happy Easter !
Joyeuses Pâques à vous !
