The artisans fair in Orgiva : handmade in the Alpujarras

I was so happy to visit the artisans fair yesterday in Orgiva. So happy and proud to see
all these handmade treasures, typical of the area and which are still made in a traditional way.
I talked a long time with the man above who is weaving a basket with wicker. He gives classes
and I kept his card preciously as I made up my mind to make my own handmade basket one day !

Monchéri fell in love with the colorful handmade sandals above and with the chorizo of course.
Ask him what is the best thing to have in the mid-morning and he'll tell you with a big smile :
chorizo, by all means. And we also bought delicious honey-coated sweet fritters called
pestiños, which are made especially at Christmas or Easter. I also met a wonderful ceramist couple
who designs furniture which I must talk to you about one day.

We went to the fair with our friends Ingrid and Charlie. Ingrid is French and Charlie is an old
school friend of Monchéri. We also grabbed a picnic basket that day, just in case the weather
would be nice enough to eat outside. And we were lucky because in spite of a mild wind, it was
great to be able to have our little picnic among the eucalyptus trees. Some people were passing
by, walking or riding a horse and greeting us a loud Bon appétit !

As we were eating Ingrid's delicious olive and cheese cake, the conversation was rolling on
living in big cities. Charlie was saying "and look at the way people walk in big cities...
they don't look up but down. And there is no air to breathe". "Oh come on, I said, if you're in
New York,  you just have to go to Central Park and there you have some green and you can
look up..." And saying so, I looked up and we all laughed because I went :
"wow...how beautiful are the eucalyptus trees !".  You see, even here, I don't look up enough....

We ended the afternoon with a walk by the little river and a bit further, we met again the two
horses which we met before. But this time they were on their own waiting patiently
for their owners. While we were driving back home, I thought we should really be
thankful for days like this.

 Hello April !

Sounds like a very pleasant way to spend the time. It is a very peaceful way of life that one doesn't get in the city despite all the good things the city has to offer. I am lucky to live where I live as there are many green spaces in our beautiful city.
