Aixtraordinaire

When we arrived in Aix, I said to Monchéri...let's go straight to the cours
Mirabeau! It was lunch time and the terrace was full so we headed upstairs.
Even if the cuisine is quite ordinary, what a joy to sit in this historical bistrot,
where the staff was smiling and charming in spite of the rush hour.

In the afternoon, we wandered through the streets nearby the Rotonde...

....and discovered this wonderful design exhibition "Jardin anglais" in the
elegant hotel particulier, Hôtel de Gallifet. The entrance was free and the exhibition
gathered 30 English and French designers in this lavish setting. I later learned that the manager
and owner of the place, Nicolas Mazet runs this family house as an arts center and also a tea room.

It was our first day in Aix and I must say, it could haven't been better. I discovered the
enchanting flowery world of Scottish designer Fi Douglas for her brand Blubellgray.
But, perhaps the real highlight of the day was to find the new perfume of my life.
There was a small room dedicated to beauty and perfumes where I soon engaged a conversation
with the lovely Rebecca Amer, a perfume consultant who is passionate about fragrances and her job.
Actually I would need to do a whole post about my new perfume discovery....

Drinks and canapés were served on the terrace, to celebrate the opening and
naturally we stayed...the ambiance was much too cool and when the DJ started to
play some jazz music, we definitely didn't want to leave....

I went back to the Hôtel de Gallifet on the last day of the exhibition and I had
the pleasure to meet Claire Murray who designs beautiful wallpaper and silk
cushions and lampshades. Below is a picture of her cushions. She generously
gave me a sample of one her wallpapers, which I find too beautiful to paste on a wall!
The picture is from her blog and you can read more about the designers
exhibiting on her post here.

This was the 1st session of Discovering Designers. I thought it was
wonderfully done and hope it will happen next year. I forgot to say
that we were graciously offered a pretty shopping bag by Bluebellgray
as a thank you gift, when we left...a lovely thought...

I give you rendez-vous wednesday for my next post on the Vivre Côté Sud trade show

Love the scenes and the photos. So very pretty! That charming restaurant where you ate has character. The photos through the mirror of the patrons below are charming. I was struck by the number of people on their cell phones. It seems everywhere one goes today, that is how it is. We are all constantly plugged in. Last time I went to a place where I was fully unplugged was about 2 years ago. It was nice and I had better sleep. xx
@ Penny...I didn't even notice the 3 people all looking at their phone..yes, that's how it is today..although I resisted posting on Facebook during my stay. The pictures are actually taken from the 1st floor through an open space in the staircase. It was great to watch the scene downstairs without being seen :-) xo
Thanks for taking us along!
