An ode to tea and jasmine

This morning, there were two good reasons to rejoice.
First, my jasmine is finally blooming in the patio,
Second, I received this book from a friend
who knows I'm a tea lover.
Ten poems about tea is a collection of poems
compiled by cookbooks writer Sophie Dhal.

I can't resist the pleasure to share the first one with you,
Tea by Carol Ann Duffy

Et je ne résiste pas au plaisir de partager le premier poème avec vous,
Tea de Carol Ann Duffy dans le texte

**

I like pouring your tea, lifting
the heavy pot, and tipping it up,
so the fragrant liquid steams in your china cup.

Or when you're away, or at work,
I like to think of your cupped hands as you sip,
as you sip, of the faint half-smile of your lips.

I like the questions - sugar ? milk ? -
and the answers I don't know by heart yet,
for I see your soul in your eyes, and I forget.

Jasmine, Gunpowder, Assam, Earl Grey, Ceylon,
I love tea's names. Which tea would you like ? I say,
but it's any tea, for you please, any time of day,

as the women harvest the slopes,
for the sweetest leaves on Mount Wu-Yi,
and I am your lover, smitten, straining your tea.

**
and you, which tea do you like ?
et vous, quel thé aimez-vous?

Salut Lala, those pictures are so pretty and I love the smell of jasmine. I consider myself more of a coffee person, however, I do like a lovely Chai tea in winter or an Orange Pekoe...mmmm. xo

I would love to have jasmine, maybe this year? Not sure it grows here. What a lovely and thoughtful gift, so nice when your friends know you well. Much love. XO

What a wonderful gift to receive - poems about tea. I have a beautiful blue and white chinese teapot and cups, so we enjoy, my husband and I, having an afternoon tea drinking ceremony - with tea provided by a Chinese lady who loves it that we enjoy their tea. We also drink green tea and I drink manzanilla, too.

I really enjoyed this pleasurable post.
I so enjoy the ceremony of tea drinking. Purchased jasmmin/green tea on Tuesday. And what a sweet post, poems on tea with your charming teapot. I tend to drink loads of green tea, but the milder variety of said. Hope you are doing well, my sweet;-)
