Is it just a question of style ?

Today I meant to post about Tennessee Williams play The night of the iguana and the brilliant movie John Huston made after the play with Richard Burton and Ava Gardner (1964).

but then I started to click click click on my fave French fashion blogs and this is how I met James, absolutely cool James on Garance's fab blog. She simply titled her post Oh James.

Well, I can simply say Oh Garance, how lucky to meet such cool elegant dudes !

ok..to be sincere I'm not too keen on overly polished shoes but I love the chapka and the gloves...

well..actually to be entirely sincere, I'm not too sure if I don't prefer the coolness of Richard Burton on the first pic. How about you ?

sorry for digressing...I didn't meant to approach the Night of the iguana on this angle...

Briefly, let me explain why I wanted to post about the Night of the iguana. My friend Gym (the blond lady standing on my banner) had the great idea to set up the play. Of course, it's a total amateur project and we need to find amateur actors willing to take part to it. I only wanted to ask you if you ever saw the play on stage, and where and I would be happy if you had any kind of indications....Thank you !

Lala Ema, Don't you think it's the facial expression that is set off by the chapka and the gloves? He seems so secure and posh! I'm sorry but I have never seen the play on stage but I'm sure anything you're involved in will have flair!

Me gusta la página de Garance, es muy "chic"!

No, no vi nunca la obra de teatro de la Noche de la Iguana, lo siento... espero que os vaya bien la producción, and the most important thing, that you have lots of fun in the process!

The sun is out in Teruel today, after days of grey skies and overall miserable weather! We feel so cheerful and happy, even my husband´s music sounds more uplifted today!

Have a lovely Wednesday... Susana
It's a lovely picture (the second one), very elegant and cool. I remember 'The Night of the Iguana'. I've seen it a few times. Huston at his best.

Greetings from London.
Hmmm don't think I've seen the stage play but have seen the movie MANY years ago. Love Richard Burton!
Best to you on your production! Sounds like fun. My vote is for both (Burton AND the frenchman) How is that for decisiveness!

I haven't seen the play but I did see the movie (and I also read the play) - both long ago. All I can remember is that it was very intense. RB was a marvellous actor, but a tortured soul, I think .. I remember reading that he once bumped into a previous wife (not ET) at a party and did not know who she was. At all. His brain was already befuddled by years of drinking excessively ...

So much fun to put on a play! 'Night of the Iguana' is definitly a favorite. I wish I was there to work behind the scenes. Wouldn't that be fun?

I would LOVE to be in your play- all i need do is take acting classes, save a few thousand dollars for the trip and stay, get down to actor size and buffness, correct my diction, and become younger- Yes, that is what I will do...I will try for the part of the Iguanna...
Fun post! Good luck with your production!

oh James is quite lovely.

some guys are nice to look at while others are more fun and interesting to be with. hmmm which is which?

funny thing, when i was a little girl my aunt told me 'you never want to be with a guy who is too polished.' it means he spends a lot of time on how he looks and there isn't much time left over for you.'

but james and richard are cuties in their own ways...

sorry i can't help with the play info. best wishes on this most interesting project. let us know how it is going...

The play is such a fun idea, Lala. Gym and yourself are both so creative. And your friend is "ooo-la-la!" So very classy.

First "Indochine", now "Night of the Iguana" - both favorites of mine.

The second photo is a great picture of style. I've been following The Sartorialists for a bit now. He has a similar website:

I'm afraid I haven't seen it so can't offer anything very constructive but what a fun and wonderfully creative project this sounds like!

Richard Burton gets my vote here for style. Always something very appealing to me about confidently casual and just ever so slightly scruffy (not to be confused with dirt and grunge however!) Too polished makes me suspicious of possibly too self-absorbed... Although he does carry that hat off very well! :)

I love Night of The Iguana and have seen it on stage. Lala...are you going to try out for it? I think it is wonderful that your friend wants to put it on stage. Good luck to all of you.

I've never seen the play on stage, but your plan to put on a production of it sounds like such fun :)

Also, I'm with you on the shoes. If his shoes were a little less perfect it would give him an air of mystery.

Just discovered your blog via "A Cuban"...
Name dropping- as a kid saw RB in the original production of Camelot. Those eyes!
Also, saw a production in NY of Iguana...starring Bette Davis and Richard Chamberlain. Amazing! Went backstage because my boy friend at the time was in it. Do it!
Good luck!!
What fun to put on a production! As two your choices, I have always preferred a man with a little gravitas over polished boy-men

Lala, I love all the creative projects you and your friends dream up. No, I haven't seen the play, but what a marvelous idea. As to the other question. I prefer Richard, definitely. I like 'em a little dirty or rough looking.
