La Terraza del Casino en Madrid

We keep postponing a 2 day trip to Madrid for work and the more we postpone, the more it's likely we won't go because the heat is already too much! So, my guess is we will wait until the weather is a bit cooler. Madrid is full of lively bars and new trendy restaurants but I've been wanting to visit La Terraza del Casino for some time, out of pure curiosity. And when I say visit, I mean it because it's not exactly cheap. The restaurant is on the top floor of the casino in Madrid, calle Alcala and has been entirely redesigned by Jaime Hayon, the enfant terrible of Spanish design. Is the food good? I have no idea but knowing that the chef is a disciple of Ferran Adria, it should be at least.

I like the oversize proportions which make me think of Alice in Wonderland and the soft palette of colours. I would love to be a cat and curl up in the white armchair called Showtime. Would you feel at ease in this decor? I think I would feel even more petite as I am already, but I don't mind especially if they tell me I just can stay for desserts. If we ever go there, I'll let you know!

Is it just me or do you also think the room below bears some resemblance, a bit baroque and same oversize proportions. This is one of the rooms of former luxury hotel and casino, Palacio Quitandinha, near Rio de Janeiro, decorated by American design icon Dorothy Draper, in 1942.

Mine will be a sequence of naps and meals...a bit boring but I'm vanquished by the heat!

Also, a bit Kelly Wertzler: she does that kind of Hollywood Glam Goes
Alice in Wonderland.( and lots of the high back/curved top chairs)

Frankly, it's one of those trends I found fascinating ... . about 3 years ago, but it's worn a bit thin.
Guess it's still fun for a hotel or any "temporary" environment , especially since so few of us live in anything like this :-)

Hmmm all that comes to mind with all of that white white- is bathroom fixtures...I would not feel cosy there, maybe more like disrobing and taking a bath in one of those hooded chairs.

I projected the heat we will feel here soon enough, and I think those interior environments looked cool as a cucumber (or a chilled pool). I understand the other readers comments that they are not "cosy," but when your clothing is stuck to your body from the heat, who wants cosy....

If I didn't have our sweet little 16 month old with us here in Madrid, we would totally be checking out this restaurant! Maybe on our next visit. You are a very smart woman to stay away from Madrid right now - it was SOOO hot today. Does the word miserable ring a bell?

How are you Lala? Sorry I haven't visited for a while but it is pretty mad here. We are having fun though!

Going to Madrid when it's cooler sounds like a good idea. Madrid is just not fun in the hot summer! We are due to go there too...

Napping and meals, sounds like a perfect prescription for those hot days.
I love everything you've shown here...and even though it is a soft palette I find it quite bold in a way.

I lived in Madrid for 5 years, I absolutely LOVE Madrid. Girl, if you can't handle the heat in Madrid you would pass out here in the Keys.

I'm going to Madrid in August. You just got me all depressed about the heat. Then again, I'm from a place where it's over 100 in July. I can handle the heat of Madrid, right?
