Wednesday market in the Lecrin valley

wednesday is a favorite day in my village
as it's market day. Mostly all women
carry their little trolley or basket
and surely I must be the only one here taking pictures

it's not 10 yet and already it's very hot

it would be nice just to have a slice of that sandia

among the many things Monchéri promises is
the preparation of a seafood paella, provided
we have the right pan of course...the biggest one

mmm...not really my taste
and not really my size.....
cute colorful knickers may be?

curtains, baskets, hats, cushions, shoes, bags
tools, sheets, fabrics....you name it....

but I came here just to buy flowers...
this pink bougainvillea was patiently waiting for me
hope it will be happy on my balcony

I made a resolution to overcome my inability
to grow flowers

hope it will last.....

ps: to the avid readers out there....nothing to do with the market but I'm trying to find out in which book Faulkner praises the art of doing nothing. Any hint? thank you !

no, I'm not preparing a tv game....

Your market's fruits and colors are a feast for the eyes! I don't think I've ever seen such a red watermelon.

Oh my! What a fun market. That shot of the paella pan made me want to own one right away, although I think it would be best for me to get one in a market like yours.

That first photo is especially wonderful.

what a wonderful post! i love all the colors. and so many things to indulge in until one's heart is content.

i think it is so great that you have a favorite day in your village, how cool. it's like wednesday comes and you know that in no time you will be in the midst of all the goodies. like a kid in a candy store.

hope you find where your quote is from. have you checked google? sometimes you can type in a line and 'all' connected to it will come up.

happy wednesday!

Lala, how did I miss this post? Hmmmmmm....but I found it now. I always enjoy going along with you to market. The colours, the variety, the bonhomie....and somehow, I always see something I would like to buy. If I ever come to Spain, I will get my 'shopping fix' for sure....

Thanks!

Your post was lovely. It reminded me of the time I shopped in the Khana Kalili (probably spelled wrong, but that's what it sounded like) in Cairo. I was 19 and not nearly smart enough to take pictures there, but OH! I can still smell the mixture of spices and ancient walls. I can still hear the calls and cries in a language I do not know, but that sounded like music. I can still hold the treasures I brought home with me. Thank you for the reminders.

Beautiful market, funny clothes! I don't know what I would do without my weekly trip to the street market in my neighbourhood :) Where else can you get 3 pairs of socks for less than a dollar? We took an american friend there once and he was absolutely fascinated by how fresh and cheap the many choices of vegetables were. We are so lucky to be located in a mild climate, right?
