I can hear my neighbor singing......

....And I love it. This is typical when you live in a village house in Andalusia. In winter time, you barely notice your neighbor as everybody stays indoors and then comes summer and suddenly, everybody is out in the street. The other day, as I was seated on the toilet flipping through the Spanish AD, I heard a clear and strong female voice coming all the way up to me. The toilet's window on the first floor looks on to a very narrow street, which we call a callejon as it is too narrow for cars to enter. It was morning and my neighbor who lives two houses away was cleaning her front door. She was singing the song Volver from Almodovar’s movie. I was quite impressed, because I tried to sing that song once and found it rather difficult. (well, of course, I’m no reference). But my neighbor sung it beautifully in a deep, rich voice with this typical Spanish husky note which made me feel nearly emotional. It was just wonderful. And there I was seated on the toilet at around 9.30 am with teary eyes because of my neighbor's singing ! Her voice had that special vibrato which is pleasant to the ear and gives you the goose flesh. Well…I guess it also reminded me of the movie…

And if you can catch the lyrics, they too are filled with melancholy :

To feel that life is but a breath, that twenty years are nothing…(..) I fear being face to face with my past again…

And then my neighbor stopped singing, as suddenly as she started.

Next time, I’ll meet her in the street, I’ll thank her for having given me a little moment of beauty.

Wishing you a happy monday filled with moments of beauty

and sending sweet thoughts to my American friends for their Independence Day !

and if you feel like listening to the song Volver (not by my neighbor but Estrella Morente),

it's here.

***

Thank you for sharing a little touch of beauty :) The song is sung very beautifully by Estrella Morente, though I am still a little curious to know how your neighbour's voice compared (!)
Salut Lala, the song sounds beautiful, the idea of hearing somebody singing it is lovely, but ... sitting on the loo!?!?!?!?! I haven't laughed this much in days!!! Thanks for that.
